My late spouse was an immigrant and she did not need me to vote for her. She went through the trouble of getting her citizenship and voted for herself. Most of these items speak the truth but some are misleading.

Unfortunately, few people choose to "identify downward" as Jesus or empathetic folks do. Instead, they tend to either vote out of narrow self interest or, esp. recently, out of resentment or grievance, against those who are different, such as Mexican laborers, Muslims, or other groups different than them who they feel are threatening their white privilege or identity. These are problems of human nature that we are unlikely to be able to change or fix. These people who vote out of resentment or grievance are usually voting against their own self interest and cutting off their nose to spite their face, so to speak, but they really don't care, as long as they are, in their minds, sticking it to those they hate..

So very nice. I recall just last week when a man I deliver parts to asked me who I was voting for. Is there a pending election? IDK. My reply was that when I do vote I always vote for the one who has my best interests in mind. It is the only way to vote.

The problem is to tell which candidate truly has your best I terested in mind and which one just knows what to say to get your vote with no intent to follow through with what he says. Moscow Mitch has said getting elected is a whole different process than what what one does once elected.

@RussRAB I am a Progresive and Trump is a conman grifter. It is not too hard for me to see how I should vote.

@DenoPenno - No argument from me on that point.

@DenoPenno so true and I shouted that at the tv the whole time he paid himself and his kids and his properties to run

How about being able to vote for candidates who will go to gaol if they fail to keep their election promises, are found corrupt, found to have raped, stolen or commited crime against humanity.

Unfortunately, all this are the harsh reality, not only in the US. The woman that participated in the Capitol rioting, if she really regrets doing so, then would deserve a second chance. The problem is, most likely she is only trying to get her life back and hasn't realised how foolish her actions were and would do it again.

Except that I have gained a whole other perspective on the whole concept of prison since I had a child incarcerated, I think we can offer this woman a second chance after serving some sort of contrition for her participation in the violent attempt to overturn our election and disrupt and destroy our national government.

@RussRAB, that can be a valid and possibly a good alternative. We'll see how it goes.

@RussRAB no way they all deserve long jail time they tried to kill senators and representatives and the worst vice pres ever they did cause death and they thought cause they lost they had a right to force others to their will....I had friends and family in jail too I know what goes on

@whiskywoman - imo, Those who most deserve to be in prison did not participate in the actual attack on the Capital.

@RussRAB I totally agree but the rioters knew better too ... wanna see cru and Hawley and many many more of the funders and planners as well ass trump held accountable
