Religion rots your brain.

(This not a scholarly article, you can read about what research says on Google)

I saw a form of this in the Deep South in the late 60's...... the little town on the AL-GA border still had segregated schools, drinking fountains, waiting rooms, et al.
The mental effort required to deny the obvious humanity of all those "darkies" (to use the politest term) actually made the whites Stupid. (I was only 18 at the time,with plenty of personal problems, not woke or scholarly in any way) but it was so Obvious!

Were you visiting or you grew up in the South? I am curious about when you turned atheist if grew up in the South. I would imagine it was hard.

@St-Sinner no i grew up in southern CT, married a southerner who was in the Navy stationed here. It was his hometown.

Strictly speaking it impairs human thinking. Not a field I'm qualified in, but I've read enough and watched enough presentations and alike from scientists who are qualified to appreciate the importance of studies into the neurology and psychology of religion. I think these are fields that all real atheists should take an interest in; another string to our bow, along with the bad history, mythology, unproven supernatural claims, and emotional blackmail and fear, the essence of all religion.

As such anything that can be labeled as a religion or deep seated belief to the exclusion of supportable fact. Historically this could be applied to hard line NAZIs in 1945 for example.
A closed mindset denying analysis of fresh or conflicting data reduces the mind's ability to think. Effectively self brain-washing to the point of psychosis.

References to study please

Mine is just a graphic based on multiple readings. There are many articles on Google

[truthinsideofyou.org]

[scientificamerican.com]

[psychologytoday.com]

[independent.co.uk]

I am not writing a scholarly article here. This is social media. We are no different than Facebook. Take for what it is worth.

If you interested in more references, I can provide more in the new year.

@St-Sinner
You should actually read these links.

How do I know you didnā€™t?

They not only donā€™t support your click-bait meme, they undermine it in many ways.

Do you have a few minutes in which I could tell you about Science?

@skado

Read what I said in text with the meme and find another place and person to quench your thirst of a scholarly debate.

I work with an intelligent woman who recently told me that our DNA was better and more pure in the time of Adam and Eve. She is a believer but not an active church attender.

How could she possibly know that?

She made a statement, but what is her argument? And what is exactly the time of Adam and Eve (which we don't believe in). It seems like it has a puritan view like we were pure when God created us in his own image.

@St-Sinner I've just seen my hairy belly and greying beard. This god of hers must be pretty ugly!

Link study or it didnā€™t happen.
What rots brains is lies and half-truths.
Merry Christmas!

Exactly

Iā€™m inclined to think their brains were already rotted....
But I have no studies to claim, merely 51 years of observation!?šŸ‘€
