People's attitudes towards issues of gender identity and sexual orientation are evolving. And these changes are long overdue. Disney is just reflecting that change. That the changes tend to challenge traditional Christian concepts is another sign that we are headed in the right direction. Religion has had way too much influence for way too long. To the Christian crybabies I say GET OVER IT!

@Flyingsaucesir There’s no justification for teaching 8 year olds and younger about gender identity no matter whether your Christain or not!! Disney needs to stay out of politics! I hope they loose millions and that possibility looks promising.

@Trajan61 I don't see anything wrong with young kids learning that terms like "boy" and "girl" don't have to have fixed, rigid, narrow meanings that must conform to a outdated, religion-based concepts.

@Flyingsaucesir I disagree as I think they need to be older to be introduced to the gender crap.

@Trajan61 What if the kid has a cross-dressing (trans) uncle or aunt? Or they have schoolmates who do, and they meet them through normal social interactions, or become aware of gender fluidity some other way? My point is that it's out there, and avoiding it may not be possible. It seems to me that we have already passed the Rubicon, and there is no turning back the clock.

@Trajan61 Well, to the extent that is true, aren't the teachers just reflecting a general trend in society? One that has been building for decades?

In my view, we are in a better place than we were say, thirty years ago, when it was acceptable for privileged white boys to go out and beat up fags on a Saturday night.

And if you really think about it, our old gender stereotypes are based on arbitrarily rigid conceptions of masculinity and feminity.

Society, or at least a majority slice of society, has come to accept that there is nothing inherently wrong with someone choosing their own gender identity. Can we agree that the majority is not wrong on that issue, independent of educational pegagogy?

@Flyingsaucesir I have no problem with people choosing their own gender. It’s teaching 8 year olds and younger about it I have a problem with.
