Anti-abortionists and LGBQT activists at work. Seems to me this kind of overt politicking is against the law and, in the past this would not be allowed. [mailchi.mp]

A part of the message
Freedom From Religion Foundation
”How often are you bombarded with anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ extremist symbols and signs in your community? This past weekend, I decided to do a mini-observation to see just how often I’m subjected to viewing these repressive images in my town. A simple Saturday revealed these unsettling results.”
”On an afternoon walk, I passed one of the Catholic churches in town. In its front garden, it has a memorial for the “unborn.” It faces the sidewalk so those who walk by the church are forced to see it.
”I returned books to my local public library, an organization that stands up for LGBTQ rights. However, I couldn’t help but remember how it has faced significant blowback from some religious extremists for its participation in Pride and for circulating books about gender identity and sexuality.”
”A local coffee shop is also not immune from anti-abortion propaganda. Despite that fact that it is an LGBTQ-owned business and a place where the owner and workers regularly stand up for reproductive justice, flyers against abortion are regularly posted there and have to be removed by staff. This weekend, someone had placed flyers for a Crisis Pregnancy Center in the bathrooms.“*

Many forget that in the bible the unborn had no rights and only became a person at birth. Yes, the baby is why you would be considered pregnant but abortion is NOT used as birth control. If you are Catholic birth control of any kind is not allowed.

I imagine BOTH sides 'opine' that they are being "bombarded".

I think both sides are (possibly with rare exceptions) exercising their free speech rights. 😛

Free speech does not mean I can add or remove literature from a business freely or even put on or remove a bumper sticker from your car.

@DenoPenno I have no trouble with the notion that both "crimes" (as you describe them) are 'perpetrated' at times by BOTH (all) sides. 😛

@FearlessFly How is it that you think I was describing crimes? The problem here is that you interpret freedom of speech much more differently that I do. Both and all sides of what?

@DenoPenno
"add or remove literature from a business freely"
"put on or remove a bumper sticker"

I facetiously called them crimes, since IMO those things are "freely" 'perpetrated' regularly by both believers/non pro-choice/anti-abortion Republican/Democrat (etc. ) folks likely with no (legal) consequence(s).

This really all depends on what part of the country you live in to a large extent. I notice many rural areas are very religious, everywhere and not just down south. Here in Queens and throughout the 5 boroughs of NYC we really don’t encounter much of this. Many here do believe in some sort of ‘God’ but don’t take it to any extremes. Occasionally there will be preachers walking around the subways and buses but that’s really it. This is a very populated area and very diverse as well so that kind of shit really will never have a place here.

Only those in urban areas are not bombarded.

@MizJ Suburban areas as well.

@CuddyCruiser In my experience the suburbs vary.

@MizJ True…..but here the neighboring suburbs such as Rockland, Westchester , as well as Nassau and Suffolk Counties are the same as NYC, the occasional preacher here and there.

@CuddyCruiser Geographically metro NY is a small part of the US, the population is significant but remember that if one lives in an area that is more spread out they are subjected to a lot more billboards and such. In central Florida I see signs and billboards that are anti-abortion and advertising churches every day. There was one on a major road near me that had a picture of a baby and says that in "X number of days I have a heartbeat". It's a lie and offensive. There are also ones that direct pregnant women to the places that anti-abortion people prey on them.

This whole thing began back in the 1950's - the biggest error EVER was putting In God We Trust on our money. I would so like to see that removed.

Add to that "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance

@MizJ Indeed!!

FFRF has a stamp, "In Reason We Trust" that can go over the stupid thing on the bills. I have one and use it all the time. Also, at their conventions they have a drawing where one can trade in their dirty money and get a chance to win 'clean" (no god crap) money.
