Unbeknownst to the well-intentioned auteur, this video is not about people who were raised religious. It’s about people who were raised fundamentalist and told they were being raised religious.

After watching this video, I think I am now better to articulate why I feel so much resentment for having been raised religious. It was harmful to me as a child, lowered my self esteem and self worth and attempted to deny my ability to think as a rational individual.

I reposted the video on Facebook.

Yes, it explains so much.

Because the religion not really a religion but is a cult parading as a religion

All cults, in my opinion.

I have to agree that religion is inherently bad. If a man becomes religious and is no longer a dope addict it is because he chose not to continue being a dope addict. If a man wants to kill you in the name of his god it is because he believes that his god requires him to kill others. After all, god killed himself to get you to believe in him so he could fix the method in which he created you.

Religion was invented by humans to control humans. It uses the guilt of sin and fear of hell.

Any they want their cash too.

Interesting how young (indeed, alive) they all look. It seems like only yesterday when I and most thinking individuals, including academics, were susceptible to this kind of emotional hucksterism, based on atheistic literalism.

But that was a previous millennium. The academics have moved on. Evidence is ruthless like that.

But those young men made names and fortunes for themselves hawking their superstitions. The ones who are still alive rest at least in material comfort if no longer in academic sainthood.

The act of making rules is a form of a power play.

True. The surest way to get me surly and hostile is to start telling me what to do and how to feel. Of course, that's probably natural for someone who has always had issues with authority and grew up the son of a judge... In the several years I have been here on Agnostic, it seems pretty obvious that I have a lot of company around here that have similar issues with authority...
In a country like the US, I can't think of a bigger rejection of authority than becoming a non-believer...

Religion is inherently evil.

The ancients invented it to explain what they did not yet understand.

Humans will always choose to weaponize whatever they can. All in the name of keeping and gaining power and wealth.
Oh yeah, and subjugating anyone they feel is beneath them.

Definitely.

Total concur.

Religion usually does more harm than good either when it attempts to become involved in politics, or when it seeks to become part of the societal heirarchy on a par with the government.
