Ever notice people do not “find God “when they are happy? It’s because the psychological tactics of religion work best on an emotional and vulnerable mind. When people are at their lowest, they seek something to fill the void . Religion is a predator.

When I have been at my psychological lowest at any point in the last 40 years, any cleric that tried to convert to his or her particular fantasy would have encountered his or her own personal hell.

Well said, and quite true.

People are encouraged to turn to God during times of challenge by believers and by clergy. They are convinced it will help a person deal with their problems, but perhaps it's better to learn how to deal with grief, guilt, sadness, etc. in healthier ways to actually help a person gain a healthy perspective on life, a healthier relationship with the people and circumstances around them than just turning to religion, which just defers the problems.

So true ,It’s a common practice when despicable people go to jail for horrific crimes they suddenly become acquainted with God

The Parole Board likes that

When people find Jesus in prison it relates to their past childhood upbringing.

Sometimes its just bordom, and the wish to impress the parole board.

@Fernapple The parole board for sure, which is practical, but it falls under the feeling of community and being blindly accepted by others in the same club... unlike here where we have just as much right to feel a sense of community and belonging but it's not so much a given. We still manage to reject each other for way, way lesser things. As it should be I guess. You still need to prove you're a decent person.
It's kind of like the difference between cats and dogs: with dogs it's a given; they can't help but lick your shoes even if you kick them with it. Cats, if you treat them with love and care you'll see a side from them no one told you was there.

If it weren’t for religious indoctrination of children starting at an early age I don’t believe there would be very many religious folks. Children are vulnerable and they know it.

Just when I thought it had all been said, you came up with a beauty. Yes, it has been obvious, as with any cult, but not widely expressed and repeated with the sensible simplicity and vigor it needs to be. Religion is a predator and should be extremely suspect to the vulnerable and stupid when they "find" it, but that's the trick isn't it? People get sucked into it exactly and always when they were at their lowest or just being stupid. Even when they manage to climb out of their hole, religion just takes the credit and they're happy to oblige. I've lost a few friends to "the blinding light" that way. (I just coined that! It's the opposite of the dark side. Let me know if you heard it here first.)

Religion was created by humans to control other humans. Religious leaders prey on their followers.

It is a well set formula. Quite possibly how Joshua/Jesus got involved in the first place.

Many years ago in a coffee shop in London I met a woman who told me that she found God. I told her that I did not know that he was hiding out. Clearly, she was not amused and bid me good day.

Lol ! They do NOT have a sense of humor. That's another clue that something is amiss with them.

@ASTRALMAX I really ought to read more...
