Because when we were kids most of us got that "starving kids in Africa" line from our mothers to try to get us to eat something we didn't want. So, it flowed better than any other place for the humor factor.

@VAL3941 totally understood! Double digit percentages of Americans now live in poverty also. So, I'm well aware of my good fortune to still be above that poverty line. Particularly since I don't have a college degree. Although, not having a student loan to pay off may very well be the reason I'm not in poverty.
