Are you really happy at your job?
Not as happy as I used to be, but still counting my blessings.
Our place used to be a family business (albeit a multinational one) but it's been bought and sold a couple of times since then, and it's gone a whole lot more corporate. Time was when keeping the customer happy was the be all and end all, and I got to do whatever it took to do that at my discretion. Now it's all about the bottom line, and can we save a few pennies by doing it a different way? (One that often doesn't work, and ends up costing us more when I have to go in anyway.) Also, it's no longer enough to do your job (sometimes hectic, sometimes quiet) it's become a matter of "How can we best utilise this resource?" (and you're the 'resource,' So if you don't have a whole bunch of crap to do at any given time, they find more duties to throw in your direction. Then when things get busy again, nothing gets done properly.
It still has its bonuses. I can usually avoid the office most of the time (either field work or working from home) and apart from the penny pinching, I have a reasonable amount of freedom and trust. I wouldn't trade it for a full time desk job, that's for sure.
I am for the most part. That is why I went to college was to do what I am doing now.
I love the work I do, but my job stresses me out. I'm trying to change my attitude so that I can be happy again.
I am retired and work at a local supermarket to stay busy. The work is easy and simple. It's amazing how enjoyable a job can be if you really don't need it, your perspective is completely different.
I like my job. The work can be tedious and is not always interesting, but is moving toward an important cause, and I work with many good people. Plus, my work conditions are great - my hours are flexible and I can often work at home, and my boss is great - supportive, encouraging and generous. So yes, my job is pretty great!
