I had a return of mice a few nights ago, so I set out traps and the glue board (yes, I hate the boards, but mice poop and nibbled on boxes are a bane). A few days ago, I heard something thrashing around and found a mouse not only stuck on a board, but had his/her foot caught in a trap.

I took it from the cupboard and put it in a bucket of water. Drowning is better than being caught on the glue board. And no, I am not going to buy olive oil and remove the sticky stuff from a mouse which I want gone from my house. In the last invasion, I caught at least a dozen of them in glue or standard traps.

There has been no evidence of another, so, I wonder--was this a loner who thought she/he had found paradise? Or was it a scout, reporting back to the clan? Are there mice out there saying to each other, "Ya know, Jim never did come back"?

The only reason I will have a cat is when I have mice. A good mouser is worth it. In Alaska it is not possible to have an outdoor cat and I cannot stand indoor litter boxes...

The plastic humane mouse traps are better in that they are reusable and at least the mouse will not suffer .Of course pests must be eliminated but if I have a choice I use the humane method.

A few months ago I had 2 mice make a nest in my sweater drawer. They chewed up several expensive sweaters to make their nest.

Time to figure out how they are sneaking in! Fill in the holes.

@Gwendolyn2018 just be sure to use something solid like cement to fill holes. They can chew through foam and caulk. I had one got in through the dryer vent then chewed through the foil pipe.
