I was informed about this very interesting, zoom-able website about our Population growth from someone here on Agnostic.

We turned 8 billion people recently (11/15/22) so I thought it apropos to share this.

Please...view it, then share it as well?

Thanks;

8 billion people. Is that why we are having all the mass shootings?

Correct. I read a paper that proved just that in 1962...my junior year in High school. It blew me away...and re-directed my career.

Calhoun suggested through the study of rats - that he kept clean and well fed....he simply made their cages smaller...

And he noticed all sorts of violent, sexually abusive, child-neglecting behaviors.

Population Density and Social Pathology was its' title.

Here it is

[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

@Robecology we don't have to have population so dense if that is infact the exact cause .. because I wouldn't say these cities that are dense are all clean and well fed ,like with food that is healthy those rats had healthy food.

Dig the population counter clicking along 😳

And that one's a bit slow...here's a more accurate one;

[worldometers.info]

@Robecology The only good news i see there: bicycle production is outpacing car production. (Probably not by enough though.)

@Flyingsaucesir Indeed!

I just read that France (at least in Paris and other cities) is offering $$ for those who sell their gas using cars to a recycler, and buy an electric bike!

[electrek.co]

@Robecology yet More oil is used to make the electricity to power the bikes,so it defeats the whole purpose,just going to get places slower

@Robecology I think we will see that (subsidies for junking fossil fuel burners and replacing them with e-bikes) happening here, in time.

@Robecology, @laidback1 Europe is making big investments in wind and solar, so their electricity is getting greener all the time. And it takes lot less energy to run a 50 lb e-bike than a 5,000 lb car.

@Flyingsaucesir yeah but it takes more oil to create the wind turbines and solar panels than the energy they put out in oil .. so it doesn't help at all .. it makes it worse lol .. I like solar panels though they be even less expensive if oil prices came down
...it's nice to have power in your own hands to make easy electricity , but it actually burns more oil

@laidback1 First, you are dead wrong about the energy cost of making wind turbines and solar panels verses the energy they generate over their useful life.

[fullfact.org]

Second, once you have enough green power generating capacity, you don't use ANY fossil fuels at all. Not for industrial or domestic purposes.

@Flyingsaucesir I read that. Let's hope it catches on here in the States!

@Flyingsaucesir" OUR VERDICT
Incorrect—this is based on a selective quotation. It could, in theory, be the case for turbines placed in poor locations. But studies show turbines pay their energy cost back quickly."

So it's "Thier verdict " "opinion "
"Theory " gravity is a theory, does he even know whqt a theory is ? There's 5 steps,and basically it's about being the most probable conclusion,it's not a fact but it's as close as it gets ... "Maybe in poor locations"

Sure... Bunch of garbage is going to pile up just like the trash you sent me is garbage of an opinion verdict blah

"The average 20 times more " right,and what about the other ones not average,maybe there's locations that would work out ,great.. but shouldn't have to have poverty to have this done... that's bullshit.
We should be drilling for oil and it should be nearly as cheap as filtered water ,it's like under 10 cents or was in some places, because they drill!!!

@Robecology Don't worry, it will. As climate disasters continue to increase in intensity, economic costs, and deaths, the people will demand action. The handwriting is on the wall.

@laidback1 The plain fact is that new, large-scale wind and solar farms are being installed all over the world. This development is occurring, and is only possible, because it makes economic sense. Green energy is actually cheaper than fossil fuels, even before accounting for the fossil fuel-driven costs of climate disasters, oil spills, habitat destruction, etc.

I hate to pull rank on you pal, but you obviously are not sufficiently educated in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and math) to adequately assess this subject.

The internet is chock full of misinformation and disinformation. Conspiracy theories abound. My advice to you is to take what you find on Facebook with a grain of salt. And study science! The key to developing good critical thinking skills is to start with a solid knowledge base. So dig into biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth science. Then let's talk.

I respectfully offer this advice in the spirit of friendship and our shared stake in the state of the natural environment.
