Live on Tape. This is the intro to the Stephen Colbert show. I always wonder why she doesn't say "Recorded before a live audience."

@triumph56 My reasoning goes like this: being "on tape" means recorded earlier and being shown later. "Live" tells me it is happening right now. If they are recording a live performance, the announcer would not need to say "Live on tape," it would just be "live" and assumed it is also being recorded for later use. Therefore, it cannot be viewed on tape and live at the same time. I consider them opposites. Thus the oxymoron.
Well, it makes sense to me 
@triumph56 I know It's not relevant to the oxymoron thing. But.the Honeymooners n I love Lucy.and even Saturday Night in the seventies were recorded live. Then sit com's used to say filmed before a live studio audience because some people were snooty about laugh -track audio added to previously recorded episodes. I think that's why people still say recorded live earlier today. It's stupid. What they mean is.We didn't go to a sound studio we recorded it live from the Whitehouse urinal. Never heard a dead recording. Except Grateful of course
