What would you think of a white male friend who wears a BLM bracelet, consistently complains how white people are racist, fairly much brags on being "woke," and then, says to you over ice cream, "I've decided to find some Black women who I can date"? This is also a man who insists to me that he does not want a relationship and only seeks friends.

I see his statement as being racist and sexist and told him so.

He's clueless. He does not realize he should be looking for individual women that find him compatible.

I'm afraid I do not get this ....
Is there some sort of racial segregation of the mating market in the US?

@Gwendolyn2018 Okay... Now with that additional information I see what you mean. I was just wondering because my brother, a white frenchman like me, even married a black woman, so I could not think of any reason why this could be wrong.

Are you interested in this man? Are his comments threatening to you? White people are racist. Maybe he's interested in exploring his options. I would not consider this to be racist or sexist.

He sounds more pretentious and conceited than racist or sexist. Seems silly that he feels a need to announce his intentions to seek out black women to date. And he seems to be assuming that black women will want to date him.

@Gwendolyn2018 He probably wanted you to be impressed by his views and say "wow, you're so enlightened and inclusive compared to every other man I've ever met in my entire life or will ever meet even if I were to live to be a thousand years old". Or something along those lines. 🙂

Was he righteous and indignant when you told him so? Ever so blustery? Call you jealous? I suspect in his mind there's no more difference in using race as a pre-requisite than there is hair color.

Two of my girls are Asian and it's amazing how many high school boys told them that they "really like Asian girls." Did they expect the girls to swoon over that confession? Hopefully those boys learned a lesson before they reach the age of your misguided friend.

@Gwendolyn2018 Sorry, I wrote this before talking about it on Garban's post, so excuse the duplication. I should have deleted it.

I think he's very insecure, and wearing "woke" like a luxury brand. I dated a guy like that a few years ago, who claimed to be woke to the "me too" movement. However, he constantly interrupted me whenever I spoke in public, stood in front of me, and generally acted like a sexist dork. My son told me I was being "woke-fished", lol! Good luck with your friend. It sounds like he doesn't understand who he is.

I hadn't heard that before but I love "woke fished"! And I get plenty of chances to use it, too.

How long did it take for you to tell him to "CUT BAIT?"

@pamagain about a minute.

That is a puzzler! Men are such fascinating creatures. I do enjoy them so, well, some of them anyway. But understand them? It's not for lack of trying but we just seem to have so little in common. But a select few are absolutely fabulous and your friend was sounding that way for awhile but then....something is amiss. Perhaps he was joking, talking out of his ass. How did he respond to what you said?

Did he ever see the film "Jungle Fever"? Sounds to me like he could be in the sequel.
