This whole Roy Moore thing has struck a few nerves and my mind has been rolling over many antitheistic thoughts as of late.....generally, I’m open (agnostic) but this kinda crap reminds me how much harm religion inflicts on innocents who are born into that culture. I feel powerless and angry quite often, I’ll admit.

I am from (and back in) Alabama, and Roy Moore is an embarrassment. He has a lot of support among those who cannot see past what the pulpit tells them - but even using their own ideology, they should stand against this zealot.

Proud that the 'New Alabama' won out this time; ashamed that it was so close.

Many of the Christians who will vote for Moore are, IMHO, hypocrites at best. If there was a just god (Jewish/Christian/Muslim), then people like Moore would have been punished long ago. However, if one reads, actually reads the New Testament, you will find rape and misogynistic activities throughout. When people believe in the literal truth of the Bible, they can justify anything.

If you want to feel useful in this situation, donate to Doug Jones' campaign for Senate.

I see the worst way in which religion hinders us as a society is belief, faith. Folks think that their personal thoughts are equal to empirical fact. Its insane.

I didn't finish that thought.

Without critical thinking bombing Bahrain sounds a lot like beating 'Bama. Folks will vote for whoever is on their team.

There are things that are in your control to change and there are more things not in your control. Change the ones you can.

RE: Roy Moore, those who vote for him, and the churches/organizations/individuals supporting him.

If you get a chance look this guy up he was Darwin's assistant Syms Covington He coined the word agnostic.

The word agnostic/agnosticism was first publicly coined in 1869 at a meeting of the Metaphysical Society in London by Thomas Henry Huxley, a British biologist and champion of the Darwinian theory of evolution. He coined it as a suitable label for his own position. I had heard that Covington had coined it too, but I was mistaken.

There is also some question as to whether he introduced it at the Metaphysical Society meeting as suggested. This from the Secular Web:

Had new question The word atheist was used to define non christians is there another word that defines a no belief system what so ever.

Pure unmitigated hypocrisy. As my man, Hitchens said, "bad people will do bad things but it takes religion to get good people to do bad things."

Great quote.

Well, don't judge... you're not here to save them, just to observe them and feel sorry for them. But when the time presents itself with religious conservatives, remind them what side they were on. Time is on your side.

However, time is limited and we have only a few days before the special election in Alabama. If Moore wins, the Evangelical community will be celebrating. If he loses, they will be condemning. We can do something by contributing to Doug Jones' campaign.

Having you feel powerless is how they rule so successfully. Getting out of the scene is step #1 in self-healing.
