I live in the south coming from NH and the religious are super devoted to gods will (whatever that is) and people who survive a disaster are blessed and hand picked by god to serve him in some fashion and that's what they say "god let me survive to 'do something' and they never do whatever that something is.

You do realise that all the people who die in natural disasters are evil, while all the ones saved are good? It's the same with school shootings where evil children are killed - no one is killed without God's permission. And the shooters are all apostles who will be rewarded with heaven. Terrorists are in that category too: they can't do wrong when they're killing for God because he decides who lives and who dies, so they can just shoot whoever they please in the sure faith that God wants them to do whatever they do. It makes all your decisions easy when you can just outsource everything to God while expressing such extreme faith that you guarantee your place at the highest table in heaven with Jesus, Muhammad and co.

People who give god credit for surviving a disaster are prime examples of "confirmation bias" in action.

It doesn't matter what the event, a believer will shape it to fit to be a confirmation of their preexisting beliefs.

My personal favorite is still the clip from several years ago, when Wolf Blitzer asked a tornado victim if she thanked god for her survival.
She told him that she didn't believe in god.
I wish more people would understand that no god is responsible for the weather.

The concept of a god who cherry picks people to zap whenever he/it feels like it escapes the faithful, as does the concept of guns=dead children. It makes me want to be a total hermit in order to avoid people like that. They're everywhere. Watch your blood pressure!
