Does anyone name their cars or have an emotional attachment to their devices?

[theatlantic.com]

I used to name my cars. I’m a guy who was into cars so naming them seemed normal. Two things caused me to stop: letting go of religion (for some strange reason) and my partner laughing at me (in a nice way). Being called a silly goose by someone you care for has a way of changing one’s habits.

I used to but it was more a theme song... my Cutlass was "Boogaloo Blues"... my Isuzu Impulse went from "Shout" to "Broken Wings" because of accidents of course... my Renault in Spain was "Macarena"... my Isuzu Trooper was "Beds are Burning"... My Mitsubishi "Ojos de perro azul" (blue dog eyes)... My Grand Am was "white Shade of Pale", My Akura was "Fly me to the moon". There were some like my German Ford that got wrecked before they earned a theme song. That's Life. They keep making more. music and cars. And before anyone ask... I don't assign theme songs to the women in my life. Once is over I may write them a poem or two or a few songs as closure but that is between me and myself.

Devices? No. My cars? Some. I currently drive a 2012 Jetta S 5 speed 2.0. In short, it's a heavy car with only 125ft lb of torque at the red line. So I dubbed it "Bismarck" after a whale like beast from Final Fantasy XIV or the large German naval ship. More so out of a joke than any adoration for an object. Funny everyone at work will ask how "Bismarck" is doing and jest about it. Hey it's a heavy beast that travels at a permanent turtle like setting. Lol

but it will get you there... late but there... better than Titanic!!!!

I don’t name them but I have a 2001Dodge Viper that I bought new that I waste to much time polishing ,cleaning etc.Is that an emotional attachment ,I hope not .I do have a personalized license plate that says 01 VIPER so that could be considered a name .The only possession I have with a name that I definitely have a very strong emotional attachment to is my dog

I have a beautiful mg midget called Lilly. I have no idea why I called it that, I asked the previous owner if it had a name and they just shrugged, I said "so you won't mind if I call her Lilly then?" and it just stuck

I had an Austin Healy Sprite (identical to the MG midget). It was a fun car (but full of problems). I loved that car but it tried to kill me! I did name it but forgot what it was.

Funny that you mentioned this. Lol i recently bought a robovac and for some reason it sweeps the bathrooms' floor two times more than the rest of the apartment. The other day i said: """eloisa, can you explain your preference for the bathrooms' floors? """ my girlfriends -upon finding out i named the vac eloísa are laughing at me non-stop.

My wife named her Roomba "Rosy".

I used to name my cars. I distinctly remember I got tearful over one's mishaps, and my mechanic at the time was concerned enough to mention that I shouldn't get so attached to my car !

Then later, I had a gorgeous '67 VW bug, that won trophies for being so nice. One night I hit a deer on the way home. Killed the deer (oh, the tears !), and caved in the front end. An excellent body man fixed it up good as new.

The whole experience gave me a new perspective on things. Except for sentimental value, I don't hold much in high esteem. Nothing we own is permanent - things come and go - especially cars !

My present van I named "Moby Dick - the white whale". It's white - of course, and it's the largest vehicle I've ever had. Made a camper out if it.

My Jeeps name is Baby. I also name my tools.

My ex-wife would name cars. I thought it was childish. Then I told her she couldn't name mine because I owned them, not her. How can you name something when you have no rights to it? She just never got that. But, I was a farmboy and she was a city slicker. Maybe that's why she's my ex. Oh, I forgot...she cheated on me. That's why she's my ex!
