They say all political careers end in failure (we don't have term limits) I recall the most successful politician ever Denis Howell. It was 1976, Denis was a former football referee and the type of guy who was well-liked on both sides of the house. So he got the job of Minister of Sport, a soft spot for any minister, unlike Northern Ireland or Transport. You can take the credit for any success and not be blamed for failures.
Then came the summer of 76 and it was hot. hot, hot. 110f on the centre court of Wimbledon hot. We went months with no rain and this was England, rain is what we do best. Resiviours dried up, pubs ran out of beer and people had their household water switched off and had to use stand-pipes in the road.
So in desperation, Denis Howell was given the emergency job of Minister for drought. Then no sooner had he taken office, than the heavens opened and it rained for nearly a month straight. So Denis got a new job...Minister for floods.

I hear that the climate is becoming more conducive to grape growing (and wine making) in England than it is in France. Instead of a Bordeaux, I think next time I'll try a nice, dry Dover! 😂

Sadly true and likely prescient.

Everything the scientists said would happen is happening, only faster than expected. And this is only the beginning.
