If Trump's behavior lapses into patent insanity, would he claim an insanity defense for the indictments committed when he was still 'sane'? Would that be a viable defense? Or should an insane person be sentenced to prison or would he be committed to a facility?

The absurdity is almost worth living for...

Nice thought but....the pustule and his ego would never, ever, evereverever allow him to claim a mental disability.

If he were to claim an insanity defense, would he be therefore stating his supporters must be "crazy" ?

  1. Many of the offences he committed were during his presidency when he was not loony enough to be removed by the 25th Amendment. Well, at least not loony enough for his sycophants in office. So that is one sanity clause covered.
  2. The legal questions are "Is he competent enough to plead" and "competent enough to stand trial". He has already pleaded "not guilty" to all of the charges and competent lawyers have stated that he has a defence, so the former question is answered. The latter would require a competency hearing brought by (I assume) his wife and kids that would strip him of his power of attorney. Not something I can see happening soon.
