If God was real and demanded specific worship, one would think that followers who got it right would fare better. I mean if Jews, Hindus, or whatever survived plane crashes at a much higher rate than others, I'd wonder if there was was something to faith. Sadly God kills people with absolutely zero favoritism. Which means to me that God is either one sick Feck, or he doesn't exist.

that could be the opposite way of looking at one's fortune.. dying sooner for the "faithful" would mean achieving the eternal reward sooner. would it not be a blessing to not suffer the pain in living life on earth when heavens perfection is waiting. you might even imagine an aborted soul to be granted a free pass thru the pearly gates.

@lauren i'gotta ask, what is disagreeable about this notion?

A churchman once told me that this is the reason God does not prove his, or heaven's existence and asks us to have faith.
Because if we KNEW there was an eternal paradise waiting for us, most people would kill themselves or their families in order to achieve that reward more quickly.
This is also why god made suicide a sin, because too much faith is as bad as too little.
cough/ bullshit/ cough

@hankster I don't find it disagreeable, but I do find it sad. Not the part about being out of pain because clearly there are instances where the pain of this life needs an ending, no matter what they think happens next. But it's sad how many decisions have been made with the fallacy of heaven... how many acts weren't done, how many situations not repaired, how many things not said, how much love not expressed.

@Lauren i hear you. it gets complicated kinda quickly. especially the missed love stuff.

gotta watch out for those churchmen willing to wait in line. @LenHazell53

Zero evidence for a deity, whether benevolent or otherwise. It's the silliest controversy ever. Sad to hear about those unfortunate people who were trapped in that church. Did the ones who survived pray harder?

Imagine a war where 2 guys are on opposite sides and they rush towards each other shooting like crazy. Neither one of them die because they are both Christians. That will never happen. God would have to determine which one of their fathers had the most sin to know which one of them would die. Boy, this gets deep.
