From being a toddler in the 50's , my parents got me to light their cigarettes for them. To them it was amusing.
At 13, being thoroughly addicted by then,. I copped a hiding for nicking some smokes and smoking. .

Exactly.
Not in my time. One got caned if caught smoking.
