Make sure to discuss politics and religion with your relatives this Thanksgiving. It will save all of you money for Christmas presents this year.
-The Grinch
I lost my brother last year. One thing we had in common was that we would disagree on everything Brexit, COVID, Trump, you name it we would argue about it.
I sure do miss those arguments.
This holiday be thankful you have someone to fight with because it is better than the silence when they are gone
I'm getting together on Thur. with my three siblings, who seldom see each other, nor do we have contact very often. No reason to pretend or do otherwise, since our parents are now long dead, and were the ones who were still pushing us to have relationships with each other, so they could feel better about their parenting and our sorry family. I will drive two hours each way, spend several hours with them, eat two meals, and politics and possibly religion will undoubtedly come up, because I have one sister who is evangelical, as is her hubby, and they are both conservatives, if not Trumpers. So yeah, the Grinch is my spirit animal, idol, and role model for the holiday season, as for me, the holidays are just another day, with no mail service and all the restaurants closed. Haven't done presents or X-mas cards for many years with my siblings, and only do birthday cards with the two sisters, not my brother..
I still do birthday cards, with a couple of my friends, because I actually like them, and unlike my siblings, they are part of my real family.
Good luck. Let us know how in general it goes.
I always hoped for the best when I would go visit all I can say is I do understand. I just stopped going.
@silverotter11 Same here. I won't be surprised if one day I just stop going for good.
