Idolatry, in Judaism and Christianity, is the worship of someone or something other than God as though it were God. It's a charge one could most justifiably levy against the literalists who believe in the Bible's inerrancy.

It is. Jesus and God was/is used by those in power for purposes that aren't good for anyone but them. Jesus is real. Christ consciousness is real. Some of the bible is real. Religion is like spirituality level 1. I'd call atheism level 2 because with atheism you've seen the bs and recognize it.

BTW Alan Watts was very critical of Christianity but he was also very spiritual. I enjoy listening to him.

Yes, of course it is. But lying for Jesus or lying for God, truthfulness and honesty are the first moral precepts jettisoned by believers.
