I was always "labeled" as the black sheep of our family, by aunts, uncles and cousins. I just corrected them and stated that I wasn't the black sheep in their midst.... I am the eagle.

Sometimes being a good person ends up with you being scape goated for others behaviour in my experience.

I do regret a lot of things that I've done or not done, in hindsight, but at the time, I took the correct decisions for me, or did the best I could. Now that both parents have passed on, both my sisters rarely talk to me. That's a matter of regret, but is perhaps unavoidable given my mental health issues, and what I believe are incorrect judgements about me by my sisters. I am and always have been true to myself.

Yes, I was a disappointment to my mother, dad was just puzzled but not critical or unapproving. I just did not conform to their idea of 'normal' and religion had nothing to do with it - lol.

I’m the red headed black sheep amongst my family of birth; always have been. I developed defiance and stubbornness at an early age when I realized nothing about me was ever good enough for my mother. So, I stopped caring/trying, and lived to my own standards. No regrets.

Serious answer: aye, I'm the sheep of probably a dozen colours in my family. They don't even talk to me since I moved away, and that's fine by me.

Personally I've found judging myself by another's standards too troublesome to bother much with.
So I guess whatever it means - black sheep - sticks if you let it.
