My mother wanted to call me Derry when I was born but my father and aunt went to register my birth on a bus and decided to name me Jacqueline -

I am eternally grateful now that I am living in Northern Ireland that I wasn't called Derry because It is an area called Stroke City as people refer to it constantly as Derry/stroke/ Londonderry.

Hahaha! It is such a nightmare naming your kids because context matters. In Roscommon where I lived there was an English family who had a daughter called Shannon. What is wrong with that ? Nice name. Not when it is the river on your doorstep and the next town is Carrick on Shannon.
Also, the shortened version of my Sons name is Con. When we moved to France I was told by a very nice neighbor to stop calling him that because it means 'bitch' in French !
