I've reached that point again with my job where I'm just done. The deal breakers outweigh the benefits.
Jobs are a lot like dating. You wink at each other til one has the nerve to ask the other out. Then you go on a few dates (we call them interviews). Then you decide to enter into a relationship. (Great, you're hired!)
Things seem great at first. You enjoy each other's company. But after a few months of sharing a bed and bathroom the little things, which by themselves are insignificant, build up until you just can't stand them anymore. It's not even so much the issues themselves. It's that when you talk about them, there's no concern. No willingness to try and not do those things that drives each other nuts. Will it really hurt to put the seat up, put the cap back on the toothpaste, squeeze from the bottom instead of the middle, or put the toilet paper in the roller the right way?
When these problems appear early into the relationship, less than a year, it's a sure sign that there's something missing and there's not as much compatibility as you had hoped.
And so you start going out again. We call them "job fairs". We ask our friends to hook us up (the only difference there is you get paid for referrals lol), and we create profiles on dating sites. We call them Indeed, LinkedIn, Job Boards and resumes.
I'm going to break up with my job. But not before I find a new job first lol. Hopefully our relationship will last long enough. Because I don't want my job to break up with me before I break up with them.

I went in an interview once. It went well and all but you never know right? Anyway, in this particular occasion, I decided to ad lib something. I had prepared questions related to the type of boss, work environment and job I would like so when the interview was nearing the end, I asked if I can interview him back (he would be my boss). I got the job. He was the best boss I ever had. Unfortunately, the company merged with another and 50% of us lost our jobs (me and my boss included). 1 year later they closed the only office in Canada.
So in conclusion @ScienceBiker don't interview your next boss since you still may lose that job.

Hmmm.... branch out and train yourself for a new adventure. With all these craft certifications you can have unlimited opportunities. Im not trying to be a smart ass. Its just...thats what i did. When i was a millwright i showed the welder how to weld aluminum. When i was a maintenance planner i knew about pumps and turbines and compressors. And so on... when i was a machinist i knew about pump foundations and pipe stress by being a millwright. Go after all you can be brother. The sky is the limit.

yes polymaths are often very respected.
I like how you put this. But for me the little things can be ignored so long as your being respected and treated equally. I've had many jobs I didn't like, there were a number of things I complained about and when nothing was done i would just shrug my shoulders and carry on. but yes find something that you will feel part of a team and your input is recognized. Thats only fair in any relationship.

It's a two way street. They can lay off anyone under the premise that bussines is slow. By the same token, the employee has the right to quit anytime given the standar two weeks notice. If you're looking for greener pastures then that's the correct procedure, hold on to the "crappy" one until you find the new one. Neither party is under any obligation to explain details
