@walklightly The Fer de Lance is well known in South America for being aggressive and territorial. I think the same can be said for your Australian Brown Snake and the Taipans. North American Rattlesnakes tend to be quite tame by comparison, you practically have to step on them to get bitten and even then many bites have little to no venom injected.

@Surfpirate, the handful of brown snakes i encountered were mildly disinterested in me - maybe i'm just too vigilant a bush walker?

@walklightly Have to agree with you, Alabama is it's own kinda special. Very glad you haven't had a bad encounter with a Brown, very deadly so you might not survive one.
The locals where I lived in Ecuador killed all snakes indiscriminately, which was destructive but they felt it better to take no chances. The boa was pretty tasty.
