Hey! I'm at 48 hours without a cigarette! I nearly blew it last night after having a drink I wanted to go buy a pack soooooo bad!!! I appreciate all the support and encouragement I've gotten here and love that I have a community at my fingertips that I can turn to so quickly!

I've said before: The best accomplishment I've made for myself in my life.

BTW, I'm not sure if you saw my post elsewhere about Michael Pollan's new book. You may know Michael Pollan's name as an influential writer about food, including a Netflix documentary series. Anyway, his new book is about psychedelics, and he talks about how magic mushrooms (psilocybin) can help people overcome some addictions. I haven't gotten to the part about the evidence yet, but here is his interview with Terry Gross on NPR: [npr.org]

Might be a fun way to kick the habit!

@pepperjones been successfully experimenting with mushroom tissue collection and propagating. Been thinking about microdosing as well. Now I need to find spores or an actual mushroom.

@pepperjones I have the know how but not the starting material.

Hurray! Good for you @pepperjones!

I am so glad you are kicking the habit of those things!

Cravings are the Toughest, Eating and Drinking Alcohol are big triggers

Have you just QUIT outright...or did you move, as I did, over to vaping?...😉

Drink lots of water to flush the poison out of your system. Go for a run, swim, fast walk, dance etc. when the Siren song calls you. Occupy your mind. Don't let a drug addiction control you. You control you. Chew on something, gum, a straw. If it gets too bad, take one hit & put it out. Cannabis can help also, if it is legal where you are....or not. Good luck.

Great job! Quitting smoking is the hardest thing I've ever done!

I quit twice in my life -- cold turkey both times. The first time lasted about 4 years. The 2nd time I quit it was 1988 -- I stuck with it since then. Do I miss it still? Of course, I do! I have my last pack of cigarettes in a box in my closet. (I plan to smoke them on my death bed -- probably so dry it'll set fire to the bed. 🙂 )

Great job. Though quitting cigarettes is a monumental task, it can be done. Learning to control your cravings is easier when you make yourself believe that cigarettes make you sick, because they do.

@pepperjones that's how I did it. I reflected and debated every urge until I convinced myself that it was no longer worth it.

Woohoooo!!! Win. I'm fighting cupcakes. After these last two I'll have defeated their army!

Keep it up,not an easy Task.?

Keep going. I lost track of time but it's over 3 or 4 years for me now. I had to break a habit more than a chemical addiction. Physically it was harder for me to quit drinking Pepsi. The headaches were brutal. I quit smoking and I still drink Pepsi.

Alrighty....

I smoke Eagle lights. $34 a carton. Im working on quitting.

@pepperjones its kind of like medicine. It all does the same thing but ones cheaper. Its the commercials that jack the price up there and then everyone thinks they should make a million just because.

Whenever you feel the urge, just tell yourself " not now, later "   it seems to help ? It did me !

@pepperjones
Thank goodness for that. It did wonders for me !

I finally found a way to do it, that has kept me cigarette free for over 10 years.

@pepperjones Glad you asked...Ok so here it is..its not rocket science or a miracle cure for addiction..all it is is this..
You go cold-turkey for 9 days..on the morning of the 10th day have a good vape unit ready..all juiced and fully charged..just use a high strength tobacco at first..don't use flavours.
It will be like paradise to you..trust me..it worked for me. Just try it..I never looked back..and I feel great since I quit cigarettes and Jesus. ???

@pepperjones. Sorry Pepper, hope you find an alternative that works better for you. I note that you already tried vaping and it made you cough, well many people get that reaction to regular PG juice, but when they change to VG type juice that stops the slight allergic reaction.

@pepperjones. Ok just keep going, I loved it too, but was wary of the damage it does. Great well done, maybe we should all stop talking about it,..its probably counter productive ..I don't know. Brilliant well done!

Yeah your gonna have to give up drink for a month or so

@pepperjones lol only for a month so you can cement the habit that's all

Good for you! Drinking was always my downfall when it came to quitting.

1

That's great, Pepper! I wish I had as much self-control as you and could quit.

0

damned proud of you! I know it's really hard to quit.

Keep on going!
