Tonight I emailed and renounced my first university, a strict religious place when I was there.

I attended Asbury College in Wilmore, KY, from 1970-73, which is a United Methodist college most of the MKs (missionary kids) from our mission attended.

It was very strict and I hated the rules, which required the women to wear skirts even in coldest winter, but I loved having all my old MK friends around, allowing me to continue to converse in "Crenglish" - a mix of Creole, Spanish, French and English used by Haiti MKs.

But just now when they sent me an email about an upcoming reunion and a request for donations, I lost it and told them what I thought about them if they were supporting Trump, told them I'm now an agnostic because of the disgraceful behavior of the churches concerning Trump, etc.

I told them I was now ashamed I was ever a Christian and told them I'd NEVER donate to them or have anything to do with them again since I could see that white evangelical Christians=white supremacists.

I did get an email from the Asbury University office this morning, saying they were sad I had abandoned my faith and that they'd put me on their prayer list. But they did offer to take me off their mailing list.

I told them to please do so, adding that if they support Trump (the person who emailed me didn't respond to my Trump comments, implying they do support him) then their pretense of "holiness" was laughable.

I actually feel bad a little bit, because it's obvious they aren't the brightest bulbs in the box..it's sort of like kicking guinea pigs. But since they are actively starting missions around the world, they are spreading hate, so I shouldn't feel bad.

I now remember that when I first arrived, when it was still Asbury College, I had to fill out a very lengthy questionnaire about my beliefs, including questions to find out if I was gay. Back then I paid little attention to gender issues-and didn't even know what transgender people were .

WOW! I'll bet you feel MUCH BETTER about that! Do you suppose they'll put you on their prayer list? Wonder if you'll have to hear from them again?

So far, so good. I suspect the poor office girls agree with me, but have to toe the company line.

I say that because two decades ago, I called the Asbury College (now it's a university) office to protest a money appeal and telling them how persecuted I'd felt as a student there.

For instance, when I was caught outside a few minutes past curfew (10 PM) with my boyfriend, I was interrogated and accused of "fornication," for hours by a committee of ten professors, while nobody said anything to my boyfriend (who I later married and he's the father of my two children).

I complained that I had to wear skirts, and wasn't allowed to wear pants even when the temp. dropped to zero, but men were left alone, etc. To my surprise, the sweet young girl on the phone was horrified, said the college wasn't that strict anymore, and apologized on behalf of the college, so I was mollified. At the time.

@birdingnut POOR YOU! I'm sorry you had to wade through all that FECES! Although I never went to a Christian school, I was forced to spend years in Sunday school and know a LOT about your experiences! You stood up to them...hooray for you!

I would have done same...’if we don’t stand for something, we will fall for anything!’ The evangelicals, say the same thing! But, that is not what I mean!

Revenge is sweet.

Good for you! Well done!

My alma mater (Grand Rapids School of Bible & Music) is defunct so I don't have this option, but I would probably not be very different if they still existed and solicited me for donations.

I wonder how many others have done this over the years, and particularly since the Trumpocalypse. If so, it should give them pause. Probably not nearly enough to change though.

Nice work. That must have been cathartic.

Good for you! Let em have it!
