On the radio today, after a fire in which people tragically perished a reporter asked a bystander about the fire and this individual stated it was Gods will . How can some people blindly believe in this idiotic premise

OH .... how that line makes me squirm with discomfort !

god's will my ass ...

Because sometimes things are so messed up any reason is better than none

When people say that I always want to (but I don't) respond by kicking their ass and claiming it was god's will...

That’s how I feel

These same people will probably go home and pray for the recovery of the survivors of the fire .In other words, their pathetic reasoning is ,I know you had a plan and your plan included that some people would be horribly injured and in pain BUT ,can you change your plan for ME and let them get better ,but if not ,I still love you no matter what.

If that same fire was started by an arsonist with a plan ,that same bystander would want the arsonist to burn in hell forever .It is utterly amazing how the belief in a God can wipe away any logic ,reasoning and common sense from a brainwashed mind.

Because there are no other explanations.

and it is scary not to have one and feel so helpless

These are the same people that send thoughts and prayers whenever there is a mass shooting. Fuck changing guns laws...prayers will help NOT.

Watch out when corporations start to use this to deny responsibility for accidents.

There was a horrible accident in my state yesterday when a commuter train went off the tracks at an overpass over the states main NS freeway. Several were killed and many injured (including some drivers when the train cars fell on them). It has been disclosed the train was traveling at excessive speed at the point. Imagine if Amtrak used the "will of god' to deny any responsibility!

There's a comic named Jim Jefferies who does a really funny bit on how God is so "Mysterious." He creates a metaphor where if humans did things as cruel and horrible as God has done, they wouldn't be called "mysterious". When people give their life "over" to God it takes all of the blame away. They aren't in control of their own lives, God is, and that removes accountability.

Maybe more of us should say "It was Gods fault".

It amazes me how so many are willing to tout Gods will when they are spared but never mention it when others suffer!

I think it's so easy to believe that the hand of God does random acts of good and bad, because of a great plan. When you think " shit happens" for no rhyme or reason it's disconcerting and straight up scary… It's the path of least resistance.
