Today, at the gym, one of the women was talking about her year old niece and how wonderful she is, especially after having survived premature birth and heart problems. The woman starting going on about thanking god and miracles. The second time she said, "I just thank god" I interjected, "And the doctors." She paused then said, "Oh, yes, the doctors ... and god." So, I continued with, "And the nurses. After all, they're the ones who were with her 24/7." I grinned at her brightly then left.
Just to forestall more comments about me being rude enough to "butt in" (no thanks for that assumption, BTW), she was talking directly to me. She started the unsolicited conversation and we were the only two in the locker room at the time.
(My bad, but I couldn't resist)
Sometimes we just cannot resist. Our patience is limited!!!
The other day, there was a car accident in Puerto Rico; 3 adults died and a baby survived. So, someone said (I bet you know!): Its a miracle! God is so good! I answered: Why didn't god save her parents?... I bet you know what they said!
OMG!! It never ceases to amaze me when I hear people go in and on about some tragic event and they always add...praise be to God!! God is good!! Someone was in a car accident and became a paraplegic but they didn't die!! God is good!! Wow, maybe God could have considered stepping in BEFORE the tragedy happened??!! He, she, it has terrible timing!!
I think you can do this without being snarky. If the woman was speaking THAT loudly I'd feel like commenting also.
She was talking to me.
@pixiedust Well, damn, then she's fair game. I mis-read, I thought she was speaking to someone who worked at the gym.
Funny how god gave the kid all those problems in the first place.
Bravo! we need to come out of the closet per se and show these believers how foolish they sound
I am a 5 year cancer survivor-I don't thank god. I don't blame god either. Had the best hospital, doctors and nurses and nurses aides.
Every time you declare your survivorship, my heart soars. It's so good to hear.
GOOD FOR YOU! I'll add...and the scientists who created procedures/medicines to pass on to doctors, nurses and other caregivers!
LOL - I'd still be at the gym
