Who here finds it hard to be liberal when it's apparently racist to hate Islam?

Islamophobia means 'fear of Islam' and there's plenty to fear with that fastest growing organised religion. It does not mean 'hatred of Islam' and when it's used to make it mean that, it's being used dishonestly and thus turns this word into a dishonest word' It is nearly always used as a weapon against people to shut them us for daring to criticise Islam. .

Do you really hate Islam,or do you hate Islamic extremists who support terrorism They are not genuine Muslims at all they are pseudo-Muslims the real Muslims are peace loving and are as apauled by terrorist attacks on innocent people as we all are. I know because I.am not a Muslim myself but my niece and her husband are They celebrate Christmas, are English and are sick to there stomachs by so called Muslim terrorist attacks if you met and talked to an ordinary Muslim you might like them and completely change your views on Islam and Muslims By the way my nieces brother is an Athiest and they get on fine, each respecting the others beliefs even when they don’t share their beliefs

Groups like the now (hopefully deteated ISIS) are Islamic. Hard core fundamentalistic Islamists. In this instance the Sunni version of it like what is the state religion of Saudia Arabia. To call such groups 'pseudo-Muslims is just ignoring what I think is a real menace in this world. Even the more peaceful Islamists are in fear of them and don't say much when the extremists carry out acts of barbarity. I say call the evil by it's true name . Militant Islam.

It’s not raceist to criticise Muslims.Islam is not a race,it’s a religion. ISLAMAPHOBE is someone who hates Muslims.Muslims are from all different nationalities and ethnicities

Islamophobia means 'fear of Islam' NOT hatred of Islam. (-phobia = fear) And there's a lot to be feared concerning Islam. Just take note that this wonderful internet site that we all love to be a part of would never be allowed in countries where Islam is in government and 'calls the shots' . People like those who have created this site would be imprisoned or worst. put to death.

I wasn't aware that hating Islam was a prerequisite to being a liberal. And here I've been doing it wrong for all these years. Thanks so much for pointing that out to me.

/end sarcasm/

If you think Islam is a race, you've failed already. Love the people, reject the religion.

I think it's hard to hate. Also, it would be hard to feel any one thing about a huge group of very different people. Why would you want to hate a group that makes up such a large percentage of the world? Have you had some personal experience with one Muslim person which makes you want to hate them all?
(Btw, it's not racism - that has to do with race. Islam is a religion made up of many people of all races)

I don't get your point.

I've spent time in Council Bluffs, Omaha, and Lincoln. I would say -- this is 25 years ago -- Nebraska is, shall we say, homogeneous. But here in New York, thanks to Islamic immigrants, many of the delis are now 24/7, there are delicious food carts everywhere, they brought back roasted chestnuts on food carts (15 years ago we were down to just four chestnut carts in the entire city.) I have three Moslems working for me and I can always count on their work being accurate. Also, we have about 40 or 50 other major minorities here. So hate doesn't really enter the picture. Except, of course, the guy who took out the riders on the bike path WHERE I USED TO RIDE EVERY DAY and the subway bombing guy.

And the truck drive in Nice

Dylan Roof in South Carolina, Jeremy Joseph Christian in Portland. Man those peckerheads are making me wonder about all white folks.

Hmmm. If you hate muslims because of their faith, then you’re a bigot, not a racist. But if you think their foolish for believing in god, then your possibly just an atheist. Being liberal doesn’t mean you have to accept someone else’s dogma as truth. You just give them the freedom to think what they want.

It's racist to hate anyone because of their beliefs. I am as liberal as we come. I hate racists. They are ignorant people.

My brother-in-law is Muslim. He helped with my mom's uber Greek Orthodox funeral. He takes care of all his non-muslim family. He's smart (two PhDs). He's funny. He's kind. He's a man of peace. So, please, let's stop stereotyping and stop the fucking hate. (He's married to my sister who is the uber atheist in the family.)

Yes I said ignorance was behind racism. I still do not like people who are racists.

4

Now I define myself as a liberal ...do not hate people hate what they preach . How many americans died by the hands of another american, vide mass shooting, so should we hate all americans? Or all islamic because of the doings of a few. Nope

4

I can't say I hate Islam. I do wish it would go away, and take its big brother Christianity with it. That doesn't mean I dislike people with dark skin. I empathize with them, especially living in the south. I feel like a minority myself (being atheist). I have an advantage though. I can hide my atheism when I need to.

Good point.

1

Define me Liberal and define me racist.

3

Being liberal doesn't mean that you have to accept or love everything nor is being republican a freecard to be racist (though it might seem that way sometimes) its human to react emotionally to things and....we are just that. Humans.
