I just moved in to an "Old Folks Home" in Tucson. Two hundred and some residents. About 75% are women. About 75% are pushing a walker. And everyone is old, like me. The staff seems efficient and is always smiling. The food is good and nutritious. They clean my apartment and launder my bedding every week. Lots of planned activities are available, to help occupy our time. Most of the residents seem happy, or at least content. I'v met lots of folks during my three weeks here, but I'm having trouble remembering names. I haven't yet formed any close relationships, except with Charlie, my departed wife's cat. I would enjoy sharing notes with other eighty-ish atheists on Agnostic.com.

It sounds like you are adjusting well to your new surroundings, and that you have a good attitude. Best of luck to you!?

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear you lost your wife not too long ago. Y'all were married for a very long time.

I'm glad you are in a nice place and that you found our community here.

It be nice if you would share some of your wisdom and knowledge with us.

I am delighted you found a place that accepted your cat. More & more places are realising what a benefit a pet is to the quality of our lives at any age. Welcome to a very diverse & eclectic site. Something for everyone here & if not, be the first.

You might do well in that setting. I would not. I am 81 years old and will never voluntarily live in such a facility.

Assisted living is changing because us Boomers are changing them as we changed the world. Keep on keepin on brother

Awesome, glad you are happy there. Most of my neighbours have done the same in the past 12 months and are very happy. Visited my mom and sister last weekend. Staff are lovely, my sister is very happy. Mother complains regardless.

There must be some 80ish atheists here..

With 75% as long you can pace a walker you can do okay. They like to cook.

It sounds lovely. I hope you find lots of friends and are happy and healthy!

An assisted living area sounds like a decent place to live when you get to the point that you need it. I had an aunt that lived in one for several years and she was happy there.
I wish you well and success in finding what you are searching for here and in your life.

I am not quite there yet, but good luck with your quest. I hope you find your peeps 😀
