I understand how you feel. I struggle with the abortion issue. I understand about the woman's right to choose, but I still feel like "What about the baby? " Maybe I'm just too much of a softy. I don't even like to thin seedlings in the garden.

My religion didn't delve into such specifics. All I knew was how to take communion.

That ship has sailed but there are other things that can be done to fix this for good. It's very simple actually. Do not indoctrinate your children. That's it..... Break and stop the vicious circle in the bud. Few generations later this question will be similar as asking whats the choice of preference, 33 or 45 rpms and people will scratch their heads saying what??????

I am sceptical about anyone that thinks that religious teaching didn't affect the way you think about sex. There are hundreds of responses on this site about how people here should and more importantly shouldn't conduct themselves regarding sex that they learned in Sunday school. Some here are very judgemental about others attitudes about the right correct and moral way to do the sex stuff. I get in tiffs here all the time with women that are here to meet men yet have no problem making it perfectly clear they don't like and think penises are ugly and should never be seen. I don't wonder how or where they learned that.
To my ears I hear something like this.

All over the world we see suffering. The Christian religion (I don't know enough about others, sorry) teaches that suffering is caused by sin and evil, and is unavoidable. If we could get past that deeply ingrained idea, maybe we could fix more of the world's problems. At least we would not have a reason to be passive in the face of so many needs.

Hmmm...I never felt any kind of way about intimacy. I always knew that was just a natural part of life and the whole point of having a reproductive system. For a very brief time when I was still a teen, the irrational fear of Hell would creep up on me at times, though lol. As silly as that sounds.

I gave up religion at 14. It never got in the way of how l felt about sex. It actually never got in the way of how l felt about anything.

It takes a long time. The good thing is that you have taken the first step. One must realize that Religion has had and does have an effect on our thinking. Once that is accomplished we can then try to catch it and think rationally.
