Misophonia and Me

Misophonia is a condition where loud eating is extremely irritating to you. I have it. I know I’m not alone.

So, I ask my fellow sufferers of misophonia: what foods or eating habits are the ones that get under your skin the most?

For me, it’s hearing teeth being scraped across a metal fork, and the horrific slurping/lip smacking that comes with eating cereal in milk. Cereal is banned in my home for this reason.

The loosening of a loogie sound hits me in the gag-glands for sure. ????

I gagged a little bit thinking about it...

Ah, yes, the self-fulfilling prophecy of goo. The sound of gagging makes you gag, causing itself into existence. Crazy, man. Crazy. 🙂

The sound of my mate who is the only person in this world who does not like food, the sound of him saying he would rather take a pill everyday if someone invented one so he didnt have to eat. He only likes Teriyaki chicken, Chicken satay, and steak with salad made a certain way with no dressing. Nothing else. Or complain complain. His complaining is horrific to me. Thank goodness he is a very intelligent man and likes to take me flying and do aerobatics or else we could not be friends lol. I love food.
To be honest I think one of the sexiest sounds is people slurping their noodles, as in Japan/China that is how you do it, you love noodles you slurp them, it is actually rude not to.

This has turned into food-porn. All you need now is candle light and Barry White.

Doesn't EVERYBODY hate that? My god, that must be similar to when my dogs lick themselves (I shan't say where) at around 85 decibels. I am then compelled to harass the wee buggers until they cease. But, seriously, are we talking like living-under-a-bridge soupslurper loud here?

The wet, juicy sound of food being churned around with saliva in someone's mouth while they're chewing grosses me out, ha!

Let me know when you visit, so I can buy a few dozen eggs in place of raisin bran!

I guess i have it too! I am easily annoyed with crunch for someone eating chips, or smacking when chewing gum. Im Like "close your mouth and chew"

3

Over the top moaning and crunching really irritate me >.<

Ear Plugs for you. We will go to dinner on separate tables. Eating habits of people never bothered me... But I was taught not to touch my meal with my hand so in the Navy I may had been the only "weird" not touching the fried chicken on the table... Or not eating spare ribs properly. I am very tolerant... no misophonia for me. But I had always need to have my hands clean. Clean.

I can't relate to this even slightly, but I can understand. We all have that little something that sets us on edge. Frankly, I've been thankfully free of most of it, well ... except for gum poppers, and I do tend to go berserk in the presence of blatant stupidity. A couple have even made me go ballistic.

We could be friends <3

Also, obviously irritated by texting and driving. You could seriously fucking pull over and not risk killing yourself and others! It's not that hard, people!

Lol I thought a coworker of mine was the only person I knew who had that. I have a mild case of it, but not as bad as most. I can't be around people who slurp when they eat and then talk with a mouth full of food... Asian restaurants during staff dinner? Right-the-fuck-out! Forks on teeth make my skin crawl. More for me, my skin is hyper sensitive. Fibromyalgia? Yeahhh, I'm familiar with that, just not the most extreme of cases. Nothing like your skin hurting for no reason and nothing to make it feel better. Gotta love anxiety and its associated neurological ills.

My room mate likes hipster beers, and IPAs in particular make him produce these weird slurping noises.

Thankfully, half the time i'm around him, the band is onstage, and he's behind a drum kit where i can't hear him.

My mother-in-law's turkey gets really wet when eaten as left-overs. That stuff will make kind of a weird smooth squeaky-cracking sound as I chew it—maybe like a crunchy squid. It's super loud too; my wife doesn't often complain about my usually loud chewing, but man, that stuff amplifies it by five times! My own chewing annoys me at that point.

2

Beware of a fellow that says" You, me, and earplugs baby!"

Come to think of it my wife would like ear plugs for anytime I speak.....

2

My wife slurping on a ice pop .Its so annoying I can’t stand it.

2

Yeah. Especially when people talk drivel loudly at the dinner table. So much more annoying than pure drivel.

2

I have to admit that there is this one person, who i love, that does click their teeth together sometimes when they eat and that does drive me nuts (mostly i feel like it's my own personal failing that i let it bother me). But i love to share good food with my friends and family. And mostly i don't care how they eat it as long as they are enjoying it! What I really can't understand are those people who say things like, I only eat for nutrition. i mean, WTF? Enjoying, savoring and appreciating food is such a great part of being alive and being human, don't ya think?

2

Some times not everyone that occasional person, I will hear them swallow and it is like nails on a chalk board to me.

2

Eating with your mouth open and talking with food in your mouth grosses ne out.

2

I don't have it, but a brother does, years ago my grandmother was staying with us and he totally lost it over her teeth (false) clicking and sucking against her gums as she ate.

2

You’re not alone... How bout the clicking of hard soled shoes or high heels across a hard surface? The ‘silent’ clicking of someone else's keyboard.. Gum chewer/ snappers. How bout ‘whistlers,’ arrogantly whistling some undistinguishable toon as if we’re all just loving it!

I’m there.. OK, always carry 3 ear plugs with you, mine ride in jacket pockets. They work great for screaming kids (anywhere), obnoxious grocery store music, any/ every concert.. ...and three are in case you had two - and lost one 😉

well, i feel sympathy for your condition as i share you your suffering but from a different angle. i can't stand the mumbling sound if someone is praying for example or the loud breathing sound. the sighing of the old.. these all piss me off a lot. strangely, i HATE the sound of TV if i am not interested in the program. but anyway, and although it is not nice, it is still good to know that i am not alone in such misery. i hope you and i find a suitable cure.
