If you haven't already seen this, you should check it out. John Oliver demonstrates how the televangelists hoodwink the poor and desperate and pull off legal and tax exempt scams.

Hilarious. I always knew that if I wanted to be filthy rich, the easiest way to do that was to start a church.

A well done piece. I almost want to get HBO again to watch him weekly . . . Almost.

John Oliver is great! He has done great shows on a number of important topics. The bottom line on this, as far as I'm concerned, is...tax churches! Let them meet the same tax-exempt requirements that other, secular, non-profit, charitable organizations do, & they can receive a break commensurate with the actual work they do. Other than that, tax the suckers!

This reminds me of a tiny book called The Prayer of Jabez, that said if you want something pray for it and God will give it to you. That book sold millions.

I love John Oliver

Saw this a while back. So funny but oh so so sad. You would think that the government would be a little smarter than to let this kind of swindle happen in their country but I guess they are not so intelligent after all.

They also do not have to report how they spend their money like other non-profits do. They could litterally spend their money on child porn and no one would have any way of knowng about it. Whats worse is it could be on their books and the government could not ask to see them.
