Is the left overly confident in the outcome of the 2020 elections?

I fear the laziness of the left will result in Trump pulling out another win. I’m not saying everyone on the left is lazy and lazy is probably the wrong word. Apathetic to voting is probably a better way to phrase it. A good chunk of the voters don’t vote unless they’re really excited about their candidate. Joe Biden might make a great President, but he is about as exciting as as a random rock on a dreary morning. Can we get excited enough about Joe Biden?

The voter apathy campaign from the minority party will of course increase as Nov. nears. Problem is, it’s never stopped… Your vote won’t count, the systems rigged, there’s not a dime's worth of difference … they’re all crooks ..the same crap that’s piled up for.. a long time.

I don’t think there’s any question trump’s motivated most to clear him out. And, nobody with an ounce of integrity or a flicker of wit will be tossing their vote or sitting on their hands this year.. The problem is - every year thereafter

Will enough within this ‘nation’ continue to realize how close we came to Fascism, stay vigilant, work with the only party capable of keeping it at bay … or ..get back to entertaining themselves to death ASAP..? As a guy who's not missed a presidential debate since old enough to control the TV, I’ve serious doubts we can stay the course 😕

Boot trump, that’s easy. Keep another from taking his place, not 😟

Grief-stricken cuz Sanders won’t be the candidate, or panic-stricken cuz they fear Biden will lose, we do have a lot of people here who love being stricken.

3

The left is not apathetic. But there are many Sanders supporters who are still pissed Sanders didn't win despite the fact that he lost fair and square to Biden. The situation is completely different from 2016. Hillary was not a good campaigner and she was annointed by superdelegates. That didn't happen this year and Sanders quickly endorsed Biden. Granted there are some Bernie followers who are more "papist than the pope" and their ego is pushing them to withhold their vote not really thinking how disgraceful this is to everything that is still decent in America. Biden may not have been the choice many wanted, but there is a big picture here. The turd is a disgrace to America, will continue ruining this country and appointing Supreme right wingers for lifetime appointments (RBG may be strong but unfortunately odds are she's next). I believe most of America knows this and with the virus and economy in shambles, you would have to be a real asshole to hold your vote because "I didn't get my wish of candidate." To me, a registered independent, the choice is clear, anybody but Trump. And I do believe people are more mature now than they were in 2016.

Or how about We're not voting for a candidate that doesn't mind cutting S.S or Medicaid/care or has flatly stated he would Veto M4A if elected.
In the midst of over 100,00 Americans dead due Covid-19..or who Still thinks the Hyde Amebdment is fucking Awesome..yeah..not happening..

@Charlene, you know that not voting is chickenshit. There is a binary choice in America, unfortunately, and I have seen you holding a stupid grudge for the benefit of a deadlier asshole who will be enboldened to do even worse things. Your decision is as dumb as opting for getting cancer instead of a headache. But I know the way you react, volatility that precludes you from thinking long term. You do what you want. Most people are not like you and I thank logic and common sense for that.

@Mofo1953 my grudge is against a corporate rigged system..the DNC has No desire to let Any progressive win, hell they're Running 2 Dems against AOC..and as a reminder of the DNC stealing another election..read this

@Mofo1953 Btw I HAD Cancer.. and My Radiologist has found a Spot on Right Lung..so fuck off DNC and Rapist apologist..

@Charlene AOC is the darling of the Bronx. She ain't going anywhere. The DNC is always trying but that had nothing to do with Bernies loss. There were no superdelegates this time. Anyway, you act the way you want. I will vote for the only sane option and that ain't the turd.

@Charlene and I had an aortic dissection that has 95% mortality rate but didn't die. What's your point? Reelect the turd by not voting because you may or may not die? When I vote, I vote not for what is best for me but for what is best for my country. Spock said it, the needs of the many outweight my personal needs. Biden or Trump, there ain't no other option in a country that has 2 parties. Trump ain't it. Period.

@Mofo1953 they're both turds..

@Charlene only thing is you have to choose between these turds for the one that will not ruin the country more, the one that won't nominate a fucking right winger to replace RBG for a lifetime position, the one that won't continue denyong science and continue without the green new deal or the Paris accord, etcetera etcetera, and, again, that turd ain't Trump. No fucking way I will let Trump and his family of corrupt assholes cloud my judgement that way. No fucking way. But you already have. Too bad.

@Mofo1953 Fuck Biden..you have the luxury of turning your eyes away from his Record..as I did with Hillary..Not this time..I will Not Vote For a Blue Turd over a Red Turd a Turd of any color is still a TURD...I will vote Blue down ticket..and hope we retake the Senate..

@Charlene Am I understanding that you would rather have four more years of Trump than casting a vote for Biden?

@Charlene as i said several times, you do what you want. I believe you're an egocentric hot head because you just react and do things without thinking or caring about the consequences of your actions. I am different as I have always been calm and collected and have always made decisions thinking strategically opting for what is best for my country. I don't act based on hope.

@Mofo1953 good luck with Joe Incremental Biden..

@paul1967 🤣🤣🤣🤣...I don't vote Republican..again Biden is A RETHUGLICAN in Dem clothing..I'll let his record speak for it's self..just remember that You acquiesced to the 1% when he Cuts S.S, Medicaid/care, Food stamps, and as many social programs as he can in the name of "Bipartisanship".

@Charlene So then you’re saying yes to another four years of Donald Trump?

@Charlene So, here’s my point and my fear. We have Trump in office and you’re indicating (at least I think you are) that you’re not voting because you think Biden is a Republican. That is my great fear, that there’s enough people out their who will want to spank the Democratic Party because their candidate lost. I don’t know if I would call that apathy or laziness, but in sure isn’t rational considering what’s at stake. Charlene, you are one of the people I hold a lot of respect for on this sight. I admire who you are and the difficulties life has thrown at you. In this instance, this one instance, I couldn’t disagree with you more. I think we will have another four years of deviation and corruption with Trump in office and in that four years I suspect that the few rights you have fought for will begin to vanish. I know that sounds manipulative and it no doubt is, but manipulative or not, it’s true and you know it.

@Charlene i will remember if you also remember. My feeling is he won't do any cuts to SS or Medicare or Medicaid. In fact I think he will go to the left of center.
[nymag.com]

@Mofo1953 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 he's Already promised to Veto Any M4A bills..Promised To V.E.T.O guaranteed healthcare in the Middle of a Pandemic with Over 100,00 dead...yeah good luck That..

@paul1967 I've been expecting this Anti-LGBTQ backlash..I don't fear it.. what I do fear is people like yourself that will vote due to their Distate of Drump..and will vote for another damaged Candidate..like Hillary was and like Biden is.. you blithely ignore his Record..Biden has helped put more African Americans in prison than any other Democrat due to his atrocious "Prison Reform" bill..and with the Murder of George Floyd I can No Longer tolerate Anyone that believes Incremental change is the Best way to go..Our entire system is now Owned by the 1%..Fuck Biden and his 1992 Republican beliefs, Fuck the Corporatist DNC..I'll vote blue down ticket..and wash my hands of the party I've voted for Since George McGovern..And Don't whine at people like me when Joe goes down in flames..blame the motherfuckers that crowned him..Your DNC..

@Charlene source?

@Charlene my vote is antitrump not because of ego like yours Charlene, but because it is good for America. You keep sayong the DNC crowned Boden which is not true. He los the primary elections through votes. That's the whole point we have discussing if only you cared to read. The DNC did that with Hillary, not this time. You are a sore loser.

@Mofo1953 and your willfully ignorant..btw this has nothing to do my err go..this is Not about Me..this is about the Corruption in the DNC that you and many others are Willingly Ignoring..Give err Me 1 reason I should Vote for Biden, without mentioning Drump or RBG..just One..

@Charlene I will give you 3 reasons and could give you even more:

  1. Biden will appoint a progressive justice to replace RBG.
  2. Biden will rejoin the Paris accord.
  3. Biden will strengthen Obamacare.
    Satisfied?

As a lifelong Democrat, I have voted in every election since age 18.

I've voted blue in every election since McGovern..I'll vote blue down down tickrt.. fuck Biden..I don't vote purple..

Ya got me beat then, girl.. Maybe it was having my dad alongside me when I clicked the box for ‘R’ ..as he’d walked with me to register & vote. Maybe it’s the fact my home state of Oregon once had some half-decent Republicans… But I finally figured it out, as Reagan was being sworn in … with my US Senator (Hatfield) smugly holding ‘the bible.’ Never again.

Toyed with ‘The Greens’ some … heck, EarthFirst!er’s were (and remain) my heroes.. But guess what - a Republican won - the Democrat lost ..and ‘the green’ didn’t gain enough percentage to show up on the pie.. OK, thought I, pick a Party, work within it … and make ‘my’ difference 🙂

Did, and still do. ..you’re a good listener… Both myself and young daughters walked several towns ‘knocking & dropping’ for a young woman running for local government. It helped that I’d attended the Democrat’s meeting (in a far away town) the night she’d shown up with her baby daughter to ‘find out how you run for office?’ I listened, too..

When asked ‘why’ she wanted to run, she stated, “They’re all men,” “They all voted against abortion,” “And they pissed me off!” She attended our ‘bootcamp for Dems,’ and I geared up to help. She won … winning on to serve three, four year terms (term limited out)! Top state officials pegged her as Governor Material, I agreed … but she was ‘happy at home, raising her daughter.’ I got that, while doing the same with mine 🙂

But, as she served … many local Dems fell off supporting her, felt like the ‘Obama Syndrome,’ before Obama.. Purists Dems, not having the intelligence, political savvy or integrity to realize, always outnumbered, her every vote was not going to please them. They’d attack. Me? - back again - for every campaign (eventually paid) - with our growing girls ~

...I’ve begun to wonder about ‘our Atheist/ Agnostic friends’ … are they so, because of non-religious reasons … or because they can’t get along with others..? Many demand a purity amid politics that cannot be successfully achieved or maintained without occasional compromise and cooperation.. Lacking that capability, they’re truly going nowhere, slow..

Yur not - you’ve been there, and appear ready for more. The PNW may not need you ..but they’re (damn) fortunate to have you ❤

In the end, the thinking voter must put aside emotions and personality considerations of the candidate himself, and focus on the policies, decisions, appointments and regulatory modifications that an executive in power can make during four short years.

1

I'm sure as hell not. The Dems always seem capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory by running bad candidates or bad campaigns when doing otherwise would have meant a sure win. Biden is a terrible candidate, as was Hillary, but the problem is not "the left". The problem is the DNC, which rigged things to make sure each of them got to be the nominee instead of Bernie. Right now Trump looks beatable, but that's before people being reminded more about Biden's faults, get more exposure to his dementia, and, if there ever is a debate, watch him get creamed by Trump as Joe tries to track the conversation and fails. My prediction is that Biden will be replaced in August by the DNC if the DNC really cares about winning in Nov.. ( After, of course, Joe drops out due to a "personal health emergency". The DNC already won, as far as they're concerned, by stopping Bernie. If Biden drops out he will be replaced by Cuomo or Warren and they will be able to win comfortably against Trump. But with Biden as the candidate, the Dems could easily lose no matter how bad Trump blows handling the pandemic and the economic crash.

Trust me Paul, nobody I know on the left is apathetic. We are just disgusted and concerned about what a poor candidate Biden is, one of the worst of the 24 that began the primary race. I have no doubt that is by design of the DNC.

2

It feels more and more to me like what happened in 2016 is going to happen again.

The same people who couldn't bring themselves to support Clinton, helped 45 win.
They didn't even have to vote for him.
They just refused to support her.

Same thing feels like it's happening now.
People won't support Biden.
45 will win again.

Awesome.

Or maybe people are just over having Thrir voices ignored by the DNC..the lesser of 2 evils isn't a choice..

@Charlene Perhaps it isn't ideal, but nothing is.
Bernie isn't in it anymore.
It's either Biden or 4 more years of 45.
That's it, those are our choices.

Everyone is free to do as they please, but I want 45 gone, and I'm going to vote accordingly.
Which is what I've said I would do all along.
If Bernie had stayed in the race and gotten the nomination, that's who I'd be voting for.
But that's not where we are.

@KKGator he suspended his operational campaigning..He's Still on the ballot in the remaining states..just a reminder, Bernies now only 500 delegates behind Joe "Go Slow" Biden..

I wonder why those people are having such a hard time supporting him?

@RoboGraham Same reasons they refused to support Clinton.
Ideology got in the way of practicality.

@KKGator

Or perhaps morality got in the way of obedience.

@RoboGraham Perhaps not.

@KKGator This: If Bernie had stayed in the race and gotten the nomination, that's who I'd be voting for.” You are a patriot, other’s, merely purists..

2

And excuse me, the "Laziness" of the Left? Really..which candidate raised More money, had The largest rallies and a passionate base?
That Isn't the laziness of the left..that's Working hard for a Cause..the laziness your talking about is the CenterRight demanding We vote for a life long Rethuglican..you want my vote? Work for it, just like We worked, for Bernie.

Perhaps you didn’t read the entirety of the post

@paul1967 oh I read it in it's entirety..this is a follow up answer..perhaps you Didn't read my previous answer..

Exactly, the left worked for it. The centrist hardly campaigned and used their advantageous connections with the corporate media and the corrupt establishment to snatch an underserved win.

@RoboGraham Biden hasn't Won yet..There are still a few primaries to go..as of now Bernie needs 500 delegates.

@Charlene

True, but there's no way they will allow Bernie to win. It doesn't even seem like he wants to win, having dropped out so prematurely.

Well, my point is being flushed out here, right in front of me. There's enthusiasm for Bernie that doesn't exist for Biden. Bernie would have made a great President, but he dropped out, that decision is now decided, and we have a choice, Biden or Trump. Is the election over for those who wanted Bernie? Will Sanders's supporters stay home? I'm worried about the apathy I saw in the 2016 election. Will that happen again, leaving us dealing with Trump for a devastating four more years?

@paul1967

  1. He didn't drop out
  2. He's Still on the ballot
  3. He's 500 delegates behind
  4. What were you expecting? Your use of the the words "Laziness" and "Apathy" was an insult,You know it, I know. We "lazy apathetic" Leftist are neither..

@RoboGraham He stopped campaigning DC ue to Covid-19..it Still primary season..anything can happen..

@paul1967

Right, there is enthusiasm for Sanders that doesn't exist for Biden. How could Biden win with no enthusiasm?

I think most Sanders supporters won't stay home. Some will vote Biden, some green, some will write in. It's not apathy, just disgust with the corruption.

@Charlene

I hope so.

I think he capitulated when he suspended his campaign and started cooperating with Biden building these task forces.

But shit is crazy this year so seems like anything could happen.

@Charlene My apathy and laziness wasn’t aimed at Sanders supporters, it was mainly aimed at people who usually don’t feel like getting off their asses to go vote. However, in 2016 a lot is Sanders supporters decided they couldn’t vote for Hillary which I get when the stakes aren’t as high as they are with Trump in office. My question is simply this, do you want four more years of Trump or can you support Biden?

@Charlene, @RoboGraham"We need you in the White House. I will do all that I can to see that that happens, Joe," Sanders said to Biden during a livestream broadcast by Biden's campaign on his website and on social media.

...how much more damage do you hope to cause..? Sanders invigorated the far-left, his message and enthusiasm is not lost on Biden. Sanders may be a Socialist … but he understands what Fascism is.. Do (either of) you?

@Varn want talk about Fascism..Remember these fucking headlines? Do you Honestly think the DNC gives a rat's ass about your vote?..This is about the Dem party that been bought by the highest bidders..and that sure as hell Ain't US..Biden was crowned by Corporate thugs..just like 2016..the corruption is just as deep in the DNC as it is in the RNC..

@Charlene If you’re that wound up over ‘the democratic party,’ get in there. What you’ll find won’t be all that impressive, or intimidating.. Or, get over it and get to work! WW(Bernie)D? What has he done. Why did he, an Independent, run within the Democratic Party, twice?

Please don’t use any reason or excuse not to get involved to the point trump is not removed kicking & screaming from our White House. In fact, I suggest you spend your effort helping any candidate running for State, local or Federal office as a Democrat, so when they eventually regain a majority, it’s so strong the R’s can’t disassemble it in two years.

I know Democrats, few are alike, what they share is a personal desire to make the nation and world better, and are willing to spend and lose in order to do so. Most smile, then ignore any ‘party platform’ - they run as themselves, with the intention representing their neighbors. Really, that simple. Find one, and help, please ~

@Varn sure I'll help.where's the gasoline? I've already got matches.

1

Hell no. Everyone i know is terrified.

g

1

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣...he's a Rethuglican..a doorknob to used by the 1%..Here's Bidens record..read it and weep.

Despite your opinion of Joe Biden, is he better or worse than Trump and can you vote for him?

@paul1967 They're Both Republican.. I have Never voted Republican..I'll vote down ballot..Fuck Drump,Fuck Biden, Fuck the DNC..

3

Never get too confident when it comes to politics. I thought George Dumbya wouldn't get re-elected after bullshitting us into an illegal war/occupation. I also thought there was no way a bumbling reality T.V star would be elected in the first place.

Wrong both times.

As I like to say, George W. won the second election. He was “anointed“ president the first time. He won only once. 😉

But, yes, I remember feeling shocked, numb, and blown away all at once when he pulled off “re-election.”

@Apunzelle I was still going to college during the re-election. Evergreen State, VERY liberal college. In fact, I was the token straight guy in most of my classes.

All of which were canceled the next day.

0

Probably. But, as with anything important, confidence in a positive outcome is important.

3

Absolutely not. A lot of the people on the left (myself included) think Trump has an inordinately high chance of winning again — much to our complete dismay.

How the heck we ended up with Biden and Trump as the two candidates for president is way beyond me ....

Here's why And how..

I am really starting to look at Canada should he get re-elected. I'm right on the border as it is. And even though I am atheist, I am technically Jewish. His very fine people don't like my very fine people much....and all it takes is one dog whistle from him.

4

People truly on the left understand what a disaster of a candidate Biden is and foresee a probable Trump victory.

2

i think so.
