A discussion among friends led me to this one:
What was your worst concert experience and what about it leads you to say this? What was your best?
Mine was a split. John Fogerty opened for John Cougar Mellencamp. We went mainly for Mellencamp, boy, were we taught.
Another concert goer said that Mellencamp frequently refuses to do curtain calls. That was one of those nights....so his set was also very short and all he could bother to do was peek out the curtain, then scurry away.
I don't know if he was angry at Fogerty or if this was his habit.
After fifteen minutes and the crowd was turning ugly, Fogerty came out. He was very gracious and said we all had paid for a better show than what he'd done. So, he proceeded to grab out band members from the back, and played for 45 minutes. Very personable, told stories, the very personification of a good guy. Much respect to Fogerty, but I'll never give Mellencamp money again.
Another time I saw the Eagles, about ten years or so ago. WORTH EVERY PENNY.
My very first concert ever was in 1980 in Athens, OH. I went to see Foreigner....opening for them was a little known group that called themselves Double Trouble. It took me a few years to realize that I'd seen Stevie Ray Vaughan before he got a name. One of my favorite artists of all time!!!
Back in 1970 I was staying with an Uncle near San Francisco. Went to Filmore West to see Santana, was a great concert. Later that week I went to see the Jefferson Airplane. They were so loud white noise was coming off the walls and it sounded terrible. Walked out. Had I been able to stay another week I could have seen Beautiful Day, I had to drive to Seattle. Ended up there the day Jimi Hendrix died.
