Memories of Catholic upbringing: we went to a small parochial school, adjacent to the rectory, across the street from the convent and church. This was all located in a very lower class French ethnic neighborhood. One day at recess, one of the 3 doors in the huge garage the priests owed opened. Slowly, a late model Cadillac emerged with the monseigneur at the helm. Behind where the car was stood a very large powerboat. Adjacent were two other late model cars....all the kids in our group were wowed at the sight ( first time we saw inside the garage).... I vividly remember thinking that I no longer understood the “vow of poverty”

I hear ya. Oral Roberts once had some money problems and a preacher in Texas by the name of Ewing gave him the "prosperity gospel." In return Oral Roberts gave him an airplane.

Their vows mean nothing look at the luxury the pope lives in, the way they travel they could end third world poverty in the countries where they hold sway but they don't because they want the money they are vile.

Religion is a very successful business

Yes BUT ONLY for the Tithe Collectors, aka Priests, Ministers, etc, etc.

Unfortunately.

Priests do not take a vow of poverty.

The Roman Catholics did, at least back then,,...this was in the sixties

@Canndue LOL, they also took vows of Chasity and Abstinence.
I guess their vows are about trustworthy as they are then.

@Canndue NO they didn't, Nuns did, not priests.

The vow of poverty is to keep their congregation poor by requiring them to donate 10% or more of their income to the church, regardless of how little they actually earn . As my Dad used to say about casinos, they didn't put up all those tall fancy buildings because they were giving all their money away.

"Secular priests" do not take a vow of poverty. Members of certain religious orders take the vow of poverty. There is no limit on the wealth of "secular priests."

There is no such thing as 'vow of poverty' when it comes to the religious leaders. They are not there for god but just for themselves.
