I think the dead line is Feb next year. Like all religions they nhave a problem but like all religions they chose to hide it and cover it up. After a lot of complaints in the media over the last few years by a large number of ex JW they have only just started calling abuse a crime they would only call it a sin before. Unlike most churches they do no charitable work such as looking after the homeless and orphans they focus solely on there door bashing and keeping the faithful in line

Should not have given them any time to think about it sign or straight away lose your tax exempt and be fined what the NRS believes the victims should be paid. No funding or tax exempt until you sign pay for a year in advance and the fine.

Being too easy on a cult. But then as Scomo is a cultist we could not expect them to be treated the same way they treat their victims.

Wouldn't it be great if the IRS did this to the many churches that break the law on endorsing politicians and/or political issues. tRump thinks he negated the Johnson amendment but he couldn't as executive privilege does not apply to acts of congress. It didn't matter as the IRS always looks the other way.

Good for the Aussies.

Here is the list of all institutions who did join the national redress scheme. Reckon many more religious institutions could be added.

Is it just me or is it that the Seventh Day Adventists are missing from the list as well as the Jehohav's Witlesses?

About damn time religion pays taxes like everyone else. Why is there some much child abuse in religion?

I tend to think that their idea/ethos may be due to the belief instilled into the congregations that " since the 'Tithe Collectors ( aka Priests and the like) are the Representatives of Gawd/Jeebus then they can do NO wrong.'

It’s mostly in the catholic religion. All other faiths allow marriage where only Catholics can’t.

Now that IS what I call REALLY Great News.

Good. They shouldn't have had it in the first place.

Witnesses look at all the other churches as "worldly and false churches" and this includes the Catholics. Therefore, the Witnesses would resent being lumped in with others on this venture. It is also a part of history that the Witnesses always take care of their own sexually abused people which means that they normally do nothing. In many cases they make the victim feel bad abut their own abuse.

True its a blame the victim defense. Then its circle the wagons as we have to protect the name of god. Many cases that have come to court in the uk always report the elders in the congregation and the headquarters in London will not cooperate

"It is the Will of God that pedophile priests should be allowed to got away with it."

I truly hope they do loose it.

2

Good for Australia for doing that. The US should do the same since most people consider it a cult than a religious sect.

3

The Aussies may be on to something here. We need more and more inroads into taxing religion.

4

Too bad they have tax exempt status at all. They should prove they're nonprofit and should have the same status as a secular nonprofit.
