Any recommendations on good (not blockbuster) movies?
Hostiles. A very powerful movie. I plan to go see RBG, since she is one of my heroes. The Shape of Water was weirdly wonderful. I recently saw Tully. It was great and there was a little twist at the end.
I loved The Shape of Water. Stunning film.
Hostiles is my next movie to watch.
The Big Sick was really good!
Definitely recommended.
Captain Fantastic (It's not a super hero movie)
Agree. Good film.
Well, I might actually go and see it. Would not have without the recommendation. Thanks.
I loved this movie
Tully, RGB, Isle of Dogs, Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story, A Fantastic Woman
Do they have to be recent?
No, but I do take movies out from the Library since I got rid of cable (TV). Documentaries, Foreign films. So I was wondering about recent movies.
I was wondering the same.
No, they do not. Thanks.
Shawshank Redemption,
Malena (Monica Bellucci ❤❤❤),
Melancholia,
Nymphomaniac Vol. I and II (don't judge me too hard for this one. It's not exactly about sex and it definitely isn't for everyone. Very odd movies.),
Tree of Life,
The Way,
The Vessel,
Pollock
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
¡Three Amigos!
Mr. Roosevelt
The Conspirator
Thanks. I saw Mr Roosevelt and The Conspirator. Will check out the other two.
Heard about "book club". Supposed to be good..
Saw the Book Club. Funny, and worth the laughter.
@jalledinlalaru Thanks, will quote you, on sched for movie friend date tomorrow.
@GipsyOfNewSpain It's been awhile. Do you recall if you liked the Book Club?
@jalledinlalaru I liked it but movie date was not into it maybe because she is on that age range. She is not a fan of Diane Keaton and even if in her youth she was a Jane Fonda like now she didn't liked the jokes about women her age. I found it entertaining. And yes the Viagra scene is the best of the movie. I am no longer attracted to young women... pretty little things no longer my bag... so mature, even aged is a requirement now... I will watch anything with Helen Mirren... part of my Hollywood Wall of course. Saw Sicario 2 this week... better than expected. I recommend you "Red" and "Red 2" if you had not seen them. Killing while under paranoia was never that funny!!!
Haven't been on this site for quite awhile. Question: Anyone have any knowledge about old records? And speaking of movies. Recently saw Yesterday. Loved it.
Movies I watched recently that I really enjoyed, some are old, some recent, just thought I would share.
Get Low- A brilliant piece southern gothic Americana, with great performances by some true cinematic legends, and some great cinematography.
Ex machina- a moody, low key, noir sci-fi, mystery, thriller. Some sexual content and some mild gore nothing gratuitous.
Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy- Gary Oldman is brilliant. Should have one best picture.
Crazy heart- Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal are just perfect.
Doggville- one of the most morally and philosophically provoking films ever made. Not for the timid when it comes to questioning your self or your own behavior.
Been sequestered for awhile. Did anyone see the new Mr Rogers Documentary? I found it powerful.
What do you like?
movie wise? I like Foreign films, Documentaries, and movies that are like good fiction: plot, acting, and a transformation of sorts, that hits the "truth" cord of our somewhat collective experience.
@jalledinlalaru yeah I’m a sucker for documentaries myself. Especially Ken Burns. I just finished a series about the Manhattan Project.
I love Ken Burns. Is the Manhattan Project recent?
@jalledinlalaru no afraid not. It an old one. Getting ready to watch the civil war another Ken Burns.
@jalledinlalaru actually I decided to start the civil war tomorrow. I am currently watching the Martian.
Something not new, but offbeat: Baghdad Cafe
My library has it on DVD, hopefully, yours will also
Going to check it out (figuratively speaking, or literally speaking, if they have it) Thanks.
