The high gas prices are pretty new, what isn't new at all is the decades long class war against the 99% by the rich, corporate America, and the duopoly in DC, which have been responsible for all of those shitty economic policies. Both major parties are equally responsible for all the shitty policies that have kept the 99% poorer for the benefit of the 1%. For every Manchin or Sinema, there are several more corrupt Dems in the Senate ready to block any progressive legislation.
