It doesn't look like much, but this is one of my favorite moths of all, because of the history I have with it. This is Scythris sinensis, an Asian invasive. This is the spring form--the summer brood has beautiful bright yellow spots on the wings. I first found this moth at a neighbor's farm 7 yrs ago. I'd never seen anything like it so I asked my moth mentor about it. He couldn't ID it either (that was shocking to me). So he sent a specimen to his mentor, who couldn't ID it and so on and so on until it reached a Lepidopterist at a museum in Quebec who COULD ID it. As it turned out I am the first person to officially report this species in the US. I've tried not to let the fame go to my head, lol. And I'm not mentioned in the Wikipedia page, but if you check it out the range is "eastern Asia, Europe, central Russia, southern Siberia and North America (Pennsylvania)". (I added a pic of the summer brood specimen collected in 2011 for comparison.)

That makes me wonder about some of the insects I've seen in the last few years that I'd never seen previously.
