My 10 year old boy kitty Duffy was murdered by a car. I still haven't gotten over it, but I'm ready to move on. I've been scouring the animal shelters looking for a pair of sisters, but nobody seems to have them. Everybody has male cats. Honestly I have nothing against male cats, but I want indoor animals this time and it's been my experience him was that when I had to keep him indoors, he peed everywhere (3 couches, 2 rugs, inside several closets). Thoughts?

Females make better indoor cats...They don't spray everything...Sorry for your loss

Male cats that were spayed early tend to not spray everything in sight.

I’m sorry for your loss. I just lost my 19 y/o Kitty. Hope you find the kitties you want.

My condolences on your loss. I'm sure the kitty had a wonderful life with you.

@pixiedust I would like to think so. Thank you.

Over the years I have had many MANY cats of both genders with up to six cats at one time. Only two cats have ever sprayed in the house. My current male, an Oriental Shorthair, that was neutered later in life, and my senior female mix who started doing it on the very rare occasion a few years back, in response to the Oriental invasion. Actually another Oriental Shorthair in the current mix has sprayed on rare occasion too, so I guess it was three cats. My understandign is that the Oriental type breeds are a bit more territorial.

I have an indoor male cat who's awesome. It seems there is a need for homes for them too. Both of my cats are allowed to go outside daily in my secured backyard.

@KittyQ I put a six-foot reed fence all the way around, they can't climb it. I leave no holes anywhere. I originally did it to deter the coyotes that were coming in my yard, but the simple fence kept the coyotes out and my cats in. It's a big yard too and they could easily scale the existing block wall so I covered it. My cats are always in at night.

I have not had good luck with indoor male cats, so I only have females. I don't ever let my girls out either, they are strictly indoors, no encounters with cars for them. They go in a crate in the car to go to the vet, I think they much prefer to stay at home.

I have a brother and sister neither spray in the house. And yes females spray too. Somebody else mentioned a territorial thing and yes that's usually the problem. All that being said two kittens are better than just one and indoors only. Good luck finding your girls.

The trick for males is having them neutered before they are six months old. The vet should be able to figure out the correct phase. I have had many males cats over the years and only the older strays have had the problem of spraying their territory. I had to keep them out of the house and make a warm winter home for them outdoors. (Upstate New York woods).

I’ve had a male and female kitty duo for 30 years. Not the same two, but a rotating pair. No spraying ever. They all have been neutered or spayed.

Not if they are neutered young.

Also the spraying is usually in reaction to being territorial - such as having outdoor cats hanging around the house - or ferals.
If you don't have those - you may be problem free.

You could try petfinder.com to find what you are looking for. That's how I found my last kitty. Or ask a local rescue to keep an eye out for you.

Indoors is the best way to be in my area - due to coyotes and cars. My heart wouldn't survive.
So sorry for your loss. Glad you've opened your heart again.

Yeah I've told all the local rescue centers to be on the lookout for me. I'll check out Petfinder.com thanks for the recommendation!

Unfortunately, females can, too!

I lost far too many that way so my kitties are all indoor kitties. As long as boys are neutered young enough, they haven't sprayed here. Currently mine are girls, but have kept boys indoors too, without issue.
