Does anyone have a secret remedy for fleas? I got the cats flea collars that worked great in the past and so far they're not doing a damn thing. I got capstar pills and fleas were dropping but it apparently didn't get them all. I also sprayed all of the carpets with stuff that's supposed to kill fleas, larvae, and eggs for up to 7 months. Nothing seems to be effective. I feel so bad for my kitties.

Oh I forgot to mention what the Vet told me - that some of these buggers get resistant to the latest topical - which could be why that Frontline is failing for you.

So far we've had that problem with Ticks adapting to topicals - I'm not sure about fleas - but I'm betting they do as well.

Too adaptable by far.

For the yard and home, I found that Siphotrol worked brilliantly, but I used it in conjunction with a topical on the kitties. Not sure it does much good if you don't treat the animals or what you're using on them is ineffective =(

diatomaceous earth, use it as a rub on the cats. It is a son of a bitch to get out of carpets, but that is not a bad thing. It works by cutting and slicing the exoskeleton of the little buggars. A 25 pound bag costs as much as a one pound bag, so shop at the feed store and not the pet store. When i have had bad outbreaks , I spread it all over the house, wait 2-3 days, do my poison, then vacuum. 10 day later , do it again. that gets all the ones you missed before they are mature enough to mate.

I mix some of that . in with their litter . It won't take care of every thing alone , but does seem to hellp , . without the problems of chemicals .

I have used diatomaceous earth before and you're right, it is a bitch to clean. It leaves a fine coating of dust everywhere. It also didn't get rid of the fleas, but there's a long story as to why. Maybe I'll give it another try.

@Kynlei The biggest problem is you have to plan around the flea life cycle, I dust and leave it down for 2 days, bug bomb, clean d. earth up, wait 8 days dust again to get all the eggs that have hatched but aren;t mature enough to breed yet, leave it down for 2 days, then clean the d. earth up. It is a pain, and time consumeing, but has worked for me in the past. I also dust the yard to further reduce fleas coming in the house. Mix the d. earth 50/50 with corn meal to give it enough bulk to be used with a hand held spreader.

That DTE is some amazing stuff. Sevin dust can be used on dogs. It's 98% DTE with very little chemical. that's dogs though.

I wear a flea collar. They come in many colors and go with most of my outfits.

You should try a choke collar next time. I've heard those are fun.

@Kynlei Sounds kinky! 😉

Cheristan (Not 'Christian for cats' ) topical. Worked on mine when we brought fleas in from outside.
(On our shoes!).
It's once a month and it worked fast.

It's for prevention and treatment.

You need your Vet to call it in to 1-800-pet-meds or wherever you buy pet prescriptions I think? Check Chewy first.
Good luck!

Do you mean Cheristin? My mom tried Frontline for probably about a year with no success. Then she found the flea collars and the fleas were gone. The collars also worked for me when the cats got fleas 2 years ago. I don't know if they've changed the formula since then or what but they just don't seem to be doing anything.

I'm trying to avoid the topical since my girl Lucky hates being messed with. The less I have to stress her out, the better. I guess I have to do what I have to do, though.

@Kynlei haha! Autocorrect got me! Yes Cheristan.

It worked well immediately. Mine hate it too - but fleas are exhausting for kitties.
