My cats were never allowed outside. My sister took hers out on a leash. I wouldn’t leave my dog out unaccompanied, why a cat?
My adopted feral Siamese refused three different litter boxes when I had him inside healing from his neutering.I have a fenced yard and a doggie door for my dog. If I wanted to keep the cat in the house and clean up his crap from every place except the litter box, I would also have to keep my dog in the house until I let him go out. I've always had a fenced yard and never walked my dog other than occasionally for fun. The feral cat had the feline leukemia when he showed up at my house. I had him neutered and gave him his shots. Different strokes for different folks or rather different paws.
@Lorajay having a fenced in yard is not letting your dog run loose. And I understand that a feral cat is usually not really domesticated (only on its own terms). But house cats or kittens at a young age, have no real need to be outside. You did the right thing for yours. Not everyone does.

Posted by LaurenI thought this was an accurate representation of how we feel every time we remember our last cat, which happens often when my daughter and I laugh over our current cat's antics.
