I'm a cat-rescue volunteer in the Boston area. We need ALWAYS fosters to provide temporary homes for cats awaiting adoption. Nearly all of our cats are adopted within weeks. All will have been vaccinated, flea-treated, tested for FIV and FeLV, and spayed/neutered prior to placement into a foster home with the exception of extremely young kittens who are too young to have had certain procedures. Rescue organizations provide vet care.
We also need volunteers to assist in trapping stray cats, transporting cats to foster homes and to the veterinarian (most frequently dropping them off in Revere or Medford on certain mornings for spaying/neutering and/or picking them up in the late afternoon/early evening). If you're good with a video camera, we could also use someone to help with video recording/editing (if you're not sure how to edit but are willing to learn, you will be taught).
If you're not in the Boston area but would like to help a similar organization in your area, you can probably find one at www.nokillnetwork.org.

I do my own catch neuter & keep. Since old man Budzik across the rode passed o , his ever breeding cat population has come to an end. The 16 of them that made a one way visit to my garage have lived out their lives in neutered luxury. Carry on the good work.
Double Pawed Orange kitty - awesome!
Too disabled to assist but all my three are rescues from area shelters.
I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it though I've never seen one in reality.
@FrayedBear My first kitty was a double pawed Tuxie. They do seem to be more common on the East Coast of the US.
They were valued as "Captains Cats" and many were brought over for their superior mousing abilities! So we still have a lot of this in the general cat population.
They are adorable! (They require a little tending to the nails though for they can get an ingrown dewclaw).
Harley is showing 14 of his 24 toes in that picture.

Posted by LaurenI thought this was an accurate representation of how we feel every time we remember our last cat, which happens often when my daughter and I laugh over our current cat's antics.
