White supremacy is the true religion of the United States. American Christianity is critically subservient to the narrative of white supremacy

What are your reasons for needing this generalization?

Your need for it has damaged your ability to think critically. White evangelical xianity is the xianity you know best; it is not America’s only xianity.

IMO, evangelical xianity’s authoritarianism has infected your thinking.

The true religion of the US is white supremacy AND greed.

I think white evangelical christianity has a lot of white supremacy in it's ranks and leadership. But no, that's not all it's about. I think this is a generalization. It's like saying it's all about repression of LGBT+ people, that's just part of it. It's about the dominance of evangelical xtians.

I respectfully disagree. I grew up in the white evangelical community... White supremacy is an ever-present theme. It is fundamental to their interpretation of the scriptures.

All because it is not explicit racism doesn't mean it is not covert racism.

the white evangelical church has been a critical facilitator and perpetuator of white supremacy in white American culture.

There has never been a practice of mainstream Christianity and American history that did not further the narrative of white supremacy. White Americans have never known any form of mainstream Christianity outside of the context of white supremacy.

@domas You are a master of generalization. I've known preachers who preach we are the same race. I've known white mennonite evangelicals who preach that all races are equal. Some small congregations, some large.

I'm convinced

What about black churches?

I did think about excluding churches of color... But as we have seen doing the Republican national convention... White worship or placating white supremacy is very much a part of the non-white American experience.

It seemed a little disrespectful to the real and significant internal struggles of non-white American communities to deal with the damage and harm done by having members of those groups placate white supremacist and racist narratives.

I felt like generalizing it out to the whole of the Christian church was more accurate... given that nuance.

I hope it makes sense.

@domos > I hope it makes sense.

So we got to blame the Unitarian Universalists?

@WonderWartHog99 do they have a history of consistent anti-white supremacist actions and not just theology? I'm genuinely curious to find out. It would be nice to have a reference point of historical tradition that has been consistently opposed towards the white supremacist narrative.

@domos > do they [Unitarian Universalists] have a history of consistent anti-white supremacist actions and not just theology?

No.

Do some homework. There are million of churches out there that DO NOT fall into your group.

@WonderWartHog99

If that church or denomination does not have a heritage and legacy of consistent anti-white supremacy doctrine and action then it does fall into my initial grouping.

The United States has never known a practice of religion or reference of peace and stability absent the dominant narrative and the influence of white supremacy.

As such, treating white supremacy as if it is not a religion or religious entity in its own right It's functionally inaccurate and leads to ineffective policy making.

@domos You STILL have no idea who the Unitarian Universalists are? You seem to be include Black churches in this group, some of which believe in Black supremacy.

Wide sweeping generalizations aren't a good thing.

@WonderWartHog99 which black church have you heard of that believes in black supremacy? I have never heard of a black church preaching black supremacy. Truly curious.

@domos Because it's almost 3 a.m. here only Nation of Islam comes to mind.

@WonderWartHog99 Jesus... This was a question about white supremacy and Christianity... You are deliberately injecting a different context... Non-white supremacy without acknowledging that the scope of impact is nowhere comparable.

Either you are trolling or literally projecting some life-learned dogma of false equivalency.

If you want a separate discussion focused on that issue, I'm game but please be explicit and request it

@domos I merely acknowledge racism is an equal opportunity employer.

@WonderWartHog99

All because that is true does Not change the fact that it is not relevant to the question

@domos I fail to see how you're supporting your premise in asking your question. Your premise is that all Christian churches support white supremacist actions. They can't all be saying every Sunday, "Let's kill all the niggers!" For obvious reasons, your premise can't include minority dominated Christian churches.

@WonderWartHog99 Trust me from experience, the UUs are a tiny and ineffectual group.

@TomMcGiverin I would also add that it seems that @WonderWartHog99 is conflating support with complicity.

@TomMcGiverin > Trust me . . .

I have a knee jerk reaction to those who say "trust me" not to trust them. However, I'm glad somebody looked up my example. Meantime, Domos is still basically resorting to the "ah's sez so" argument.

@TomMcGiverin I don’t trust your experience.

Michael Moore talked about this I think it was in Bowling for Columbine.

White Supremacy, and conspicuous consumption. America worships at Walmart.

BitFlipper Level 8 Aug 28, 2020

I guess I am a double atheist, I don't shop at WM.

@HippieChick58 me either.

@HippieChick58 It's like McDonald's: nobody ADMITS to going there.

@WonderWartHog99 Interesting comment. I quit McDonalds over 20 years ago preferring the very occasional visit to A&W as they seem to have healthier food. Walmarts I go into maybe once a year (it is 200 km away) but rarely buy anything. It does not seem cheap except in quality. Organic food has not entered their consciousness. Like Costco they seemed to sell American brand crap made in China.

@HippieChick58 I despise WM, but haven't yet found any other source for washing powder for making my own laundry detergent. I know I can make my own by baking baking soda, but the process is already messy enough. They're also the only place that reliably stocks the bar soaps I use for the same project. I really need to spend some time seeking out a different source.

@rogerbenham If it's 200 kilometers away, going to a large discount chain won't save you money.

To me the big deal about McDo's is the food will be warm; the bathrooms will be spotless. Without coupons the meal price won't be worth going. The one thing I like is patrons can get a HUGE soda with endless refills. Let me whip out my hip flash . . . .

@WonderWartHog99 200 km away are several medical specialists as well as eye specialists. I had a colon operation there and my deceased wife had 3 monthly eye work there. It is the nearest town of about 12,000 people.

@GinaMaria I found Washing Powder at my local grocery, HyVee. My guess would be you could also get it from Amazon. I used to make my own laundry detergent, and I still have washing powder and borax on hand.
I do make my own soap.

@GinaMaria, @WonderWartHog99 I have eaten at McD's once in the past 6 months and before that not for years. I thought they had a play area, and I had a small boy with me. Well, no play area, he did eat the meal really well. But with no play area I don't see any reason to go to McD's ever again.

@HippieChick58, it's not at any nearby grocery stores, here. I'll check Amazon, but when I considered adding borax to my subscriptions, I was blown away by how expensive it is. Thanks for the reminder, though Amazon is another monstrous entity I'm ashamed to support.

As for McDonald's, I get their unsweetened iced tea almost every time I find myself in my car. That is all.

@GinaMaria I did like their Iced Tea, you're a gal after my own heart. And yes, I don't like supporting Amazon, BUT it saves me time and sometimes money, so the lesser of many evils. It keeps me out of stores and away from other people, so that is the devil I have to live with.

@HippieChick58 > But with no play area I don't see any reason to go to McD's ever again.

Petunia prefers their spotless restrooms over the typical gas station.

@WonderWartHog99 I can't think of the last time I had to use a gas station restroom. But yeah, I agree with Petunia, gas station restrooms have a reputation.
