Peaches! Now you're talking. The only stone fruit I can grow well is Santa Rosa plum. Perhaps there are other varieties of plum and apricot I could also make happy. But without much summer heart or winter cold, most don't do well here.
One of my fondest memories of the preschool retreats we did when I taught was at ranch somewhere in the north bay. It was in August, probaby a hundred degrees and they had peaches which were sweating nectar. I asked and was permitted to harvest one. So much flavor. So wet and hot. Who needs hot cobler? Could have served it fresh a la mode and melted that ice cream just fine.
What a great story!
The reason I planted these was because of a memory -
Many years ago (well, about 12 years ago) I worked on a farm in VA. We would head out once every week or so, for a trail ride. As we headed out, the driveway had a line of peach trees so we would stop under them and grab a few for the ride. As you said - so much flavor.
The birds are waiting and watching too! For my grapes I put up a solar Eagle just as they start to ripen.[video.search.yahoo.com]

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
