I tried it and it just did not work... a pack of lettuce seeds is about 50 cents?

All my good windows are reserved for growing marihuana, but I take the advice on lettuce to heart.

I don't do things like this because I don't have many sunny windows that the cats don't have access to.

No, but I will.

No, but when I grow lettuce, I only take the leaves I will eat now, not the whole plant, so the plant grows more. There does come a time when the lettuce gives up, but that is usually the end of the season, anyway.

I frequently grow spring onions. First in water then plant in soil when roots appear.

It is normally not worth the trouble. resprouting commercially grown veggies gives lower food value for a lot more work..

Why is that Glenn? GMO Monster foods?

@FrayedBear There are few nutrients in just water, so the plant steals the few left in its stems to make new leaves.

@glennlab not that I ever have any on hand but aren't a few drops of ammonia supposed to help?

@FrayedBear Liquid fertilizer or hydroponics mix, would be ok, but then you have the dilution measurements, household ammonia has other chemicals added that are not good for plants so that would be a hard no.

@glennlab vague memory of something that I read long ago & never followed up on.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
