I use plastic bubble wrap in my containers, so as to lessen the need for earth. I do use this log method where I wish to raise up the floor of my plantings.

I get the cheapest pool, noodles I can find...Dollar Store, usually. Or ask friends who have pools to save them, they get rough on the outside & need to be replaced every 2 years at best.
I cut them in 4"-5"-ish chunks with an old kitchen knife (serrated) and pack vertically so no water is trapped/standing in the bottom of my outdoor containers, cover with dirt.
They work great and never trap water...be sure to "sculpt" a few of the cylinders to fully pack the bottom, do not worry if they are not completely even on top. They last 15 or more years, even if the container is in hot sun all day, and go through winters too.

That is a great way to repurpose plastic.

I read about Hugelkultur a few years ago, I thought it was fascinating. I am sad I don't have space to do it.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
