No they don't grow here.

Every summer in Olympia, WA. I would pick a pair of old tennis shors to sacrifice to the blackberry stains gods! Heehee. I miss those acres of wild blackberries. There is nothing like that here in the Gulf South. There are blackberries, but they are puny and too few to do much with. ?
To this day, my sentimental favorite dessert of all is blackberry cobbler with melted vanilla ice cream. Mmm

Yum BlackBerry cobbler is good. I used to live in North East Texas we didn't have blackberries but we had what they called dewberries.

We had much more of the hybrid black raspberries in Upstate New York. No one else seems to have heard of them.

By the gallons. It was a family affair. Even the dog went along.

I like to take and freeze them they taste so good Frozen or put into a lemonade drink

@Sheannutt Sounds great.

Blackberry preserves and blackberry cobblers were delights!

oh yeah really good I make the jam with honey no sugar and no pectin the way they used to make it many years ago

And I still do.

Now that I live up here in Oregon I go picking because I love to make jam

@Sheannutt I have some growing in my garden so don't have to take a road trip.

@AstralSmoke lucky you! when i lived in Eugene OR I went every year to a Pick-your-Own farm and then made not only jam, but also stocked the extra freezer in my garage with frozen blue and blackberries ...

@AstralSmoke my friend has a fence full of them cannot wait for them to get ready so I can go get some.

@Sheannutt I've been picking on mine for a couple of weeks now. Of course, I'm sharing some with the birds, squirrels, and a friendly tortoise that comes by every now and then.

@AstralSmoke they're never ready around here until around the middle of August to the middle of September

@Sheannutt Patience. Here, they are normally ready to be picked around the 4th of July.

@AstralSmoke just in time to make that blackberry pie for the 4th of July yum yum

@Sheannutt That reminds me. I need to go pick some now, for the health of the fat critters running around here.

@AstralSmoke LOL that is funny what are you going to do with them after you get them picked?

@Sheannutt Only got a large handful. I have a 4' x 5' blackberry bed. Had big plans of making a cobbler, but they haven't rippened in mass for me to do that. I like them in cereals and on ice-cream. What do you do with the ones you pick?

@AstralSmoke I'm a honey Jam

@Sheannutt Yes, I bet you are.

Still do. I go picking with my grandchildren and we make blackberry and apple crumble.

Yummy that sounds good

Himalayan, an escaped cultivar is very invasive, I have more than I could possibly use and routinely cut them back. I make jelly and syrup yearly.

That sounds great

No, but I pick them quite frequently at sprouts. And I picked wild ones along the river in Washington...those were the best darn blackberries I’ve ever eaten.

They have them everywhere around here I get to go pick them at my friend's place he has tons of them all over the fence line. I made Blackberry honey Jam last year it was so good.

@Sheannutt I’ll be visiting you in berry season.

@MissKathleen that's sometime in the end of August and first part of September

@Sheannutt got any cats? I can’t do cats.

@MissKathleen not allowed to have cats or dogs in this apartment. Apparently you can have the most noisiest little brats though.

@Sheannutt ugh...

@MissKathleen I'm on a waiting list for a different apartment that's just for 62 year old people and up

@Sheannutt Cool.

@MissKathleen it might even take a year before I get into a new apartment that's what they're telling me how long the waiting list is

@Sheannutt bummer

@MissKathleen yeah it is but I've got all the time in the world I just keep wearing my ear plugs

btroje Level 9 July 11, 2018

Raspberry is my most favorite Berry ever.

Them’s yummy too.

@Sheannutt when I lived in Maine I had a Great Dane that would graze the wild raspberries with me

@btroje oh how cool what a great memory

Beware the chiggers .

Cast1es Level 8 July 11, 2018

Yes I know all about them damn chiggers. I've learned to spray kerosene on my socks around my ankles it does work.

@Sheannutt I've found planting mint around areas I'd like to sit in , keeps the mosquitos away . I;m wondering if rubbing mint leaves on your ankles would help to keep the chiggers away , as well ? Would smell a lot nicer than kerosene , and a whole lot less likely to catch fire .

@Cast1es I have no idea about the mint for chiggers.
